Yawn... can't believe I stayed up to watch that. What a crap interview. Dave's much smarter than the questions he was asking... "Do you have to use the same bike for the whole race?"

His script was clearly written by one of the interns without any thought and Dave didn't give a damn about LA... he was just the end-of-show filler segment. Geez... Dave put more effort into the well wishing for Kenny Breck. However, that was self-serving since Dave owns part of Team Rahal.

What's really bad is the show was as stale as it was 10 years ago. Dropping confetti off buildings... they were doing that routine 15 years ago.

Crap show, crap host, crap interview.

F1, you are on crack! Did you see Lance on Leno the night before? Leno is the worst interviewer ever! Letterman was far, far better at talking to Lance. Letterman is a great guy and super funny. I want to see confetti dropping off buildings! It is a good show and has a good host!

Letterman was mildly amusing. The kind of amusing you get from some light fluff half hour comedy show that isn't quite good but isn't quite bad. I barely got through Letterman, and it was only sheer will that kept me going. If I wasn't packing for my big move today, I would have turned it by then. The questions were stupid, the script Letterman read from for Lance was bad, and Lance isn't that charismatic either. Someone needs to work with him, because he's about as exciting as a block of wood during interviews. He also seemed a bit standoffish too, but maybe it's because the questions were so bad he couldn't help it. If it had been me, I would have had to restrain myself from lots of eye rolling on national tv. Maybe that's why the interview was so unimpressive?

Leno was so bad I couldn't even wait around to watch Lance, and by the time I remembered to turn it back, Lance was long gone, and so was the show.

I wish Lance would go on the Craig Kilbourne show. Now he's one funny guy. He's got this evil humor that always comes through. It's just too bad he's on so late, or I'd watch him as regularly as when he was the host of Talk Soup. :( Craig would have brought out the best in Lance, and it would have been probably his best interview ever.

From now on, if Lance comes on past 10pm, I'm not wasting my time waiting up for him. I gotta get up at 3:45am, so it takes a lot for me to stay up that late for something, and it's a lot less worth it when it's a waste of time. :(

Humor aside, Charlie Rose always does a great interview with Lance. He is today's guest - www.charlierose.com (http://www.charlierose.com/)

I agree, Kilborn would have done a better job. I enjoy his interviews most out of the latenight talkshow hosts. He's also a sports guy, so he woulda had better questions I'm sure.

koffee, there is thing called a vcr...in anycase, Charlie Rose does do a better job, and a few years ago, he did a full hour with Lance and it gave Lance a chance to talk about his ordeal with cancer and how he came to see that he represents more than just an athlete. I remember seeing Lance being interviewed the first year back to the TDF and he is NOT a good interview. Okay it was just after a tough stage and his brain might have been a bit oxygen deprived...I mean what can any athlete say after being interviewed for the tenth time...it was a really hard day...I gave it 110%, I felt pretty good, we'll just what will happen tomorrow...

Wow, you guys are harsh. I thought the interview was great. I thought Letterman was really funny: "so, at what age did you start riding?" And Lance was really modest - As soon as they said they were gonna show a clip, I knew which it would be...his handlebar getting snagged and his falling. What he failed to mention was that was when he got up and increased his margin by about a minute, probably winning him the tour. All in all, good stuff. I only slept 3 hours last night, and I thought waiting up was worth it.

fogrider,

Thanks for the heads up on Charlie Rose. I didn't realize that Lance's interview could be an hour. I think the interview's wth letterman and leno are just too short to enjoy.

I'll be watching tonight.

LOL.

Letterman was funny in the NBC days. I spent many nights up until 1:30 watching him. That was the Dave I liked... crazy and taking risks. The Dave who had his license suspended because he got so many speeding tickets driving home after work in his Porsche. In the old days they dropped TVs and bowling balls off a fire training tower. Stuff that was dangerous and cool.

The current Dave is watered down and mellow. Some say he's been more introspective since the heart attack. Whatever... he gave a weak effort interviewing LA and it showed. You can tell a guest's importance to the show by where they come in the schedule. The last guest is the lowest priority because if the show runs late they chop that segment as needed.

I kinda liked the interview. Discovered a few things I was wondering about. But then again, I dont have OLN like everyone else does here.

I saw an interview last night w/ Lance by some guy.. I don't know who, but it was an hour and they were talking about his new book a little bit. That was a good interview. Alot better than the little blurbs after stages he did during the tour.

Saw it also. That was a pretty solid interview. It was with Charlie Rose. Discussion of that interview can be found here (http://boards.charlierose.com/board/topic.asp?ti=4370) .

As much as I'd love to see it, it'll never happen. Someone somewhere has been training for several years now with the sole intent of dethroning Lance. This year was close. Next year won't be as close (unless the divorce gets in the way) because Lance had a wake up call. But by TdF 05, someone will have reached a level beyond Lance. As soon as you become a legend, you become a target ;)

Nevertheless, if he wins next year, they should rename it to the "Tour de Lance"! :D

I wouldn't say never about a guy that should be dead.

If he wins 6 he will win 7. In the Charlie Rose interview he said Jan was his biggest threat. Jan has a tendency to slack in the off season, but, Lance thinks that has changed this year. It will be one hell of a race in '04.

Its true that this was a wake up call, but the real factor is age. This year Lance had a lot of distractions, the bug just before the start, family problems...there may be things he can do about that, but will he be able to fight off age? I think Lance is right that Jan is his biggest threat and I'm sure he is tired of coming in second to Lance year after year. If Jan comes back next year with a stronger team and works out in the off season, he will not just let Lance win number 6. For that matter, this year shows that there is weakness in Lance's armor...and there are many hopefulls out there. Lance may know what it takes to prepare for the tour, but will his body co-operate? either way, next year will be a great one to watch.

I think Lance will take his sixth consecutive Tour.

...but I end my exhausting workday every evening with a little Dave humor. I like the guy and the crazy stuff. I did watch the interview. I thought it was too brief and rushed, but it seemed pretty focused.

I thought the questions were pretty good, for a general audience. Dave was respectful and did not minimize his accomplishments in the least. In fact, I think he presented him as an awesome guy doing awesome things. I learned a few things I didn't know. Mainly it got a plug in about his new book, which was probably why he appeared in the first place.

Leno has come to "stink", IMHO. NO ONE can take the place of Johnny Carson. Now THOSE were great shows! (yeah, I'm old!)
