Introductions - Touring cyclist from NE

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi scumglob, where's the tour taking you? And what bike are you using? Do you keep a blog of your travels?
Welcome to BF!

I ride a Surly LHT and love it!! I have a minimalist blog at http://brentscrazybiketrip.blogspot.com/ ... in April if I get into a graduate program I'll ride from Lincoln to the east coast and back to check out schools.. If I don't I'm gunna do a loop through the NE sandhills (it will be my 3rd time, they're great!!)/Laramie WY/CO/UT/Grand Canyon/Austin/then back up to lincoln via the Ozarks
I'm psyched!!

Nice blog! I liked the photos of the Crescent Lake trail--I've never seen photos of it before.
It sounds as if you didn't really enjoy Washington, though...

Hey thanks for reading it East Hill!!
Washington was gorgeous, of course. Culturally it was more like the midwest than the other coastal states. Fewer tourists = more freedom for traveling cyclists :). I really regret not having ridden the Ice Fields Parkway though... I was bone tired. It was only my second tour and I foolishly passed up taking extended breaks in Glacier & Kananaskis that I needed - could have stayed a lot longer in each to recover. With the new bike & friend pushing me (pushing each other ;)) at the beginning of the tour doing 80+mi days back to back in early August with 90F, 100F days I spent all my energy early in the tour. Definitely going to pace myself better and stay with road angels longer on my next tour :).
Have you ridden any tours?? What do you ride?

I have not ridden any tours, but really want to do a tour of Vancouver Island sometime this summer. I enjoy reading the touring forum, although I'm a lurker there most of the time.
As for what I ride, uhhh, I have 12 bicycles, so it's almost more a question of what DON'T I ride :) .
Mostly vintage steel, though :) .

How long does that loopback tour take you? I didn't really realize that CO and those states were considered the NE but, it still sounds like a beautiful ride. I plan on going trans-am this year, probably by myself. Though I plan on taking my time, being that it will be my first time, and spending a few months on the tour. Nice blog, some of the pictures are great.

oh -when I said NE I meant Nebraska :) The sandhills region out west is the prettiest place I've ever seen
Thanks for looking at my blog!! I haven't really worked out how long the trip will take, being that I am not 100% certain I'll do it yet --- gotta hear back from schools first (a few more weeks, cross the fingers). But tentatively I'd say 3-4mo, with big breaks. Are you going to take the Adventure Cycling route for your trans-am? That'd be a great trip. I think solo is the way to go :). Total freedom!!
