So, I had a flat on my ride on sunday. Got everything put together but realized my threadless CO2 cartridges wouldn't fit into the device I had for them. I was on the corner of Old Atascocita road and Clearlake (I think?) in Huffman.

The first riders to stop for me were a man and lady who were kind enough to let me use a co2 cartridge. I got back on the road but my tire wasn't set right - a friendly gentleman on a Pinarello came by and fixed that. Finally, mechanical problems with my rear shifter overtook me on the ride home (bike is stuck in highest gear) and a friendly cyclist on a Trek with his son let me ride back to their place (much closer and not entirely in a headwind) and gave me a ride home.

I always stop and offer to help cyclists on the road and it was really great to see how helpful and trusting cyclists are towards each other. Even though my ride was plagued with mechanical problems I stayed cheery and in a good mood as the day was beautiful and I was out to do intervals, so getting stuck in my highest gear probably was a better workout than I otherwise would have gotten. Thanks for being such a great community, NE houston!

PS I have been stranded on the road for hours at a time on worse days and had hundreds of cars pass by without a second look. Every single cyclists asks if you're alright, even the badasses with Swedish accents and racing bikes.

Hello Kid Truth,
Two weeks ago in Conroe on my VERY FIRST group ride since moving to TX on 02 Feb '08. I had TWO flats back to back! The first was as I was unloading my bike from my van, checked the tires before I left and they were fine, got to the ride start and it was flat. God has a sick sense of humor 'cause the flat was the back tire! So, I get out my spare tube, throw it on, start inflating and BOOM!! Flat number two (this was my fault) didn't check the tire for a piece of glass. Now I was "tubeless" (pardon the pun!) and rideless! One of the gentlemen from the group gave me his spare tube while other members checked my tire and found the embedded piece of glass. I virtually did nothing and was rolling in no time! The gentleman who loaned me his tube said "pay it forward to the next guy without a second spare"

This past Sunday on another ride, some other poor guy had his "ride ruining flat tire" and I had the spare tube to give! What goes around, comes around! We cyclists have to stick together! Glad you found "your" road angels!
