Has anyone ever experienced any torn ligaments or avulsion fractures in their feet from cycling? I thought I had a stress fracture in my big toe area after a particularly grueling ride, but x-rays were negative. Doc thinks I may have torn ligaments. Anybody else go through this?
I developed a stress fracture on my right foot last year, but I actually got the stress fracture from running, then I thought I was healed and started cycling, and after a few months, the pain was pretty bad. I had to take time off at the end of the summer, which did suck.

Well, I suppose you mean from routine riding and not from crashing.
Cycling is generally considered a "low impact" sport. So getting fractures or even tears and strains from cycling would be hard to do. But I suppose it can be done. If something is possible, someone will go out and do it.
Having a problem in the big toe seems really peculiar to me. The soles on bike shoes are rigid. That means your toe can't really get into trouble assuming you are wearing cycling shoes and they fit reasonably well. It seems to me that in order to get a stress fracture or even a strain, the joints of the toe would have to be extending and flexing. They shouldn't be doing this in the course of ordinary road riding. I guess you might get this in mountain biking if you put your foot down and pivoted on your big toe routinely.
