I am doing Collegiate RR this year, and a few events are time trials. I can't afford a TT bike, so I was thinking about just going with some aero bars, and move my seat up a little bit. Are there any clip on aero bars that are designed for carbon handle bars? Maybe some that are integrated into a stem?

Here are two stem mounted options from Profile, there may be more, I just looked at the first two...

I've got Easton Aero Force bars, they are compatible with Easton carbon bars, but I don't know about other brands. I have them on EC90 Equipe bars.

has anyone ever used the 2nd type. Do you have to have a round stem to use them. Mine is a squarish specialized stem, so I might have to switch out stems if I go with these.

it is not the clip on's you need to find, you need to find out if you can put clip on's on your carbon handlebars. There are a few of carbon handlebars out there that take them. I have a Ritchey handlebar that can take clip ons.

Anyone know if this bar can take clip-ons?

Oval Concept has some really nice bars that clip on the stem. But it requires you use one of their stems also.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. If you're going to do it, I'd want the bar and the clip on to be of the same manufacturer, or at least that specific clip on approved for that specific bar.

And I'd certainly buy a torque wrench, and pay attention to specs.

Snapping off a handlebar would be no fun.

Most clip-on bars clamp right near the stem, which is highly reinforced to deal with stem clamp pressure anyway. I clipped bars onto my easton ec90 bars all last season. Just be careful, as always when clamping carbon.
