I am using a Deore LX crank with a shimano IG chain.

It performs ok when I'm not pushing hard on the crank. But when I'm in a rough terrain, and when I push it hard, the chain skips. This only happens when i'm on my middle chainring.. And I only noticed it skipping when my right[leg/foot] is in the downward stroke.

In todays ride, it skipped 4-5 times.

skip = when pedalling, it[crank] suddenly looses resistance, about 45-60 deg rev.

I nearly fell to my right side the last time this happend as I hammered.

Please help..

I assume you have check chain length.

Had this happen with an old, stretched chain. Since I tend to use middle ring most, I too noticed it when on it and especially when getting on the pedals.

Sounds like wear and tear on the middle ring/chain to me too.

Shimano chainrings have a reputation for being extremely smooth shifting but quite quick wearing. You might get away with just a new chain but it does sound like a new ring might be in order.

Are you sure it is slipping on the chainring and not on the cog? If the derailuer is to far to the left or right it can slip.
