Touring - fender and rack using same eyelet

so I bought a new front rack for my bike and even though I have two eyelets I have to use the one because of the shape of the rack. It's a low rider rack designed for those rubber u-bolts to hold it to the fork, but my fork actually has those screws that go into it so it slightly changes the configuration (negligibly for pannier placement).

Does anyone have any horror stories about why it's not a good idea to use one eye let for both fender and rack mounts?

If possible put the fender strut outside the rack strut so the heavier load (the rack) is closer to the fork eyelet. Also make sure you use high quality bolts that won't lose their thread and then strip your eyelet, and that are long enough to go all the way through the fork eyelets and not just part way in.

If possible, secure the rack first, using medium-strength threadlocking compound (like blue Loctite) and a nut.

Then mount the fender stays on the bolts' remaining threads, and secure with threadlocker and separate nuts.

I've heard that bikes will catch fire or accelerate erratically if you use the same eyelet for both. You are mad if you do this.

I just bolt in the rack first then the fender. But if it really bothers you then use a setscrew, rack, bolt, fender, bolt, done.

I have used the same eyelets for a rear rack. As mentioned in other posts, rack strut first then fender mount. 1000 miles so far with no issues.

Happened to me... really... trust me... I would never lie to you! :D

haha as I thought it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm using the bolts and nuts that came with the rack and some blue loctite. I just always hear everyone going on about having only one eyelet and never understood why it was that big a deal. Just making sure theres no "my rack fell off and my fender decapitated my riding partner" stories floating around out there = ]

Only that the guy who built my bike figures that it weakens the rear drop-out to have more then one hole in it. he must have some reason for that opinion. He puts eyelets in the rear rack for fender attachments.
