There's an off chance I might do a couple of the Central Park spring races (I'd have to get up damned early !). The flyer says that the Cat 3/4 and M35+ are 4 laps, but how long is a lap ?? Which would be better for and old guy like me ? (just turned 46)

a lap is +/- 10km.

That's 6 miles for those of you who haven't completely abandoned the USA and sunk into the Metric Morass. Botto has been drinking Flemish beer, eating Pommes Frites and smoking Gitanes all winter. He is Euro Trashed.

By the way the only kilos in Central Park are white bricks of controlled substances.

I'm probably in for the 3/4 race this Sunday. It's pretty much dependent on the temperature. I really don't feel like lining up if it's below 30.

waiting for the HTFU post...

I think people register day of race a lot.

It's a lot colder early in the morning than later in the day. I'll be doing Prospect Park (a 3 mile or 5 km loop) the Saturday before Easter if it's warm enough that early. Otherwise I'll do Gimbles or something later in the day.

The M35 races in the city tend to be more team oriented. The 3-4s are a little more "attacky". As a 3, I'd probably choose the 3-4 given the choice. Masters races always have some strong riders who like to put the hurt on. I hate that.

Any idea what the pace is? or Lap times for the asst categories? A coach i talked to said in the Pro 123 they were doing 11 minute laps last year.

if someone who actually lives in the city is complaining about having to get up and race in the cold, while other folk are getting up even earlier, to drive in and race in the cold, there's no point. he's a wussy.

Case in point: my Sunday AM alarm will fire off @ 3:55AM. Coffee maker and Pcadmobile pre-loaded. I get into my bike racing clothes, slide down the fire pole into the kitchen, grab a cup o' Joe and corn muffin to go and I'm on the road by 4:30AM. I'm parked on Fifth Ave. near the Guggenheim by 5:45, gives me plenty of time to register, take a dump, do a 5 minute warm up spin and toe up the line with my team mates.

My pal Don sometimes makes those races fresh off the redeye from San Jose, CA.

Thanks ... I thought you meant Central Park had those cats.

Bethel has M40+ in the spring series, and the race last August did too I think. http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=5751

In New Britain I did 3 races that day.. pretty cooked during the 35+ after doing 2 eariler

Sorry :)

The race stresses me out enough as it is. We managed to get a women's race in a couple years ago. My evolution like pace of change means the next change will occur in about 10 years. Killer is that I now have about 4-4.5 hours of driving to do after the race instead of 35 minutes.

In the meantime the Plainville Series (near New Britain, on Saturdays) is having M40 4/5 races:
http://plainvillespringseries.com/
He's a good guy, tries to run a good race, and right now pays money to watch other people race.

hope that helps,
