Fifty Plus (50+) - tire mounting gadget

I think someone here was asking over on the road forum what the easiest way to get tires on was. I haven't tried this myself, but it looks like it could work and its only $6

Never seen it but there doesn't look like there'd be any reason it wouldn't work. Note that it's for putting tires on, not taking them off. If you can't get the tire off with your hand, you'd still have to carry another tool.

I think you have to take them off from the right side of the wheel instead of the left.

Anyone order from this place before? Where are they at?

There used to be (maybe still is, but I haven't seen one in years) a tool called the VAR lever that worked on this same principle. They were effective but tended to break when the tires were really tight. This one looks like it would work in ordinary conditions, but I wonder if those little prongs are too thick to let you lift the bead over the rim on an extra-snug tire.

I've had the VAR example for many years (20+) and have used it on several VERY TIGHT tire (type) applications, and it works well and has yet to break. On this new one . . . I know nothing.

I bought a Quick Stick recently. I haven't used it to take a tire off yet, but I was able to get one put on very easily.

In searching for an example online, I noticed that Alfred E Bike sells 10 in assorted colors for under $30. You only need one.

Pedro's Tire Levers work great for me. One side lifts the tire off, flip the tool over and the other side puts it back on.

Mine finally broke - it was probably 20 years old too. Only the lever part broke so I can still use it to get tight tires on - usually only a problem with new ones so I keep it at home.

This is what I have. I broke 6 tire irons on a nasty rim and this did the trick.

Never tried it but I doubt that it would work any better at getting tyres on or off- than the old system of ripping them off with your teeth. Or a pair of Spoons out of the cutlery draw.

I guess I'm really confused, but I've never needed any assistance in mounting the tire once off the rim ???? ..... Am I missing something??? .... Come to think of it, I've never used a tool to get the tire off the rim either.

+1 on the QuikStik. It works better than tire irons on stubborn beads (Continentals, anyone?), can be used to coax a tight bead onto a rim, and best of all, stows easily in my jersey pocket along with my wallet, CO2 inflator and Clif bars. It's the only tire removal tool I've needed in 20 years of riding... I used to be able to pick 'em up at Target, and I think I've seen them at REI once in awhile.

The ones at aebike.com look a little different. Mine doesn't have the grooves in the handle. Maybe it saves a few grams? :D

Have you ever mounted a narrow tire on a Sun Rhyno Lite rim? I can usually mount or remove tires from most rims without tools, but these are a sonofagun.
The Crank Bros. Tool works pretty well, but even it has a time with those rims.

I never used to- but these road wheels with tight tyres are a bit of a trial sometimes. What makes it worse is that I use the VeloFlex rim tape that is a thick cloth and the tyre does not get down into the Centre of the rim to take the strain off the bead when trying to get the thing off.

I have a set of pedros levers. I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean the notch on the back of the lever? If so, how? I fiddled around with one this evening and wasn't obvious to me how that notch would help you mount a tire. Pedros website doesn't have anything to say about it
