On a long climb in the Fort Davis (Texas) Cyclefest

My wife and I were at Cyclefest for the 2nd year on the Speedster this year. Lots of steep long climbs. It is my favorite cycling event though. Can't wait till next year.

We're new at the tandem thing. I rebuilt, no, make that resurrected, the bike last winter.

Hmm, with the sun that low in the sky, you were either going north in late afternoon or south in early morning. Or you live at a very high lattitude.

We were traveling south in the early morning. Taken in Fort Worth, Texas. We are early risers and on weekends we like to leave the house 30 minutes before sunrise unless the cold drives us to ride later in the day.

Today we did 44 miles, the entire length fo the Cape Cod Rail Trail, Dennis to Wellfleet and back. We didn't expect to do the whole thing but the timing seemed like it would work so we kept going. Started at about 11:30, got back to the car about 4:30, before dark (but with our lights on). It was cool but pleasant when we started, a bit chilly when we finished!

So how do you take pics like that? You set up the camera with a long self-timer setting, then run off and jump on the bike? Okay, I guess not when you're riding a time-trial.

I had better attach one of these :) to this posting.

One week after this photo it snowed on the pass. All the passes were over 11,000 feet. It was great fun and beautiful. CLICK THE PICTURE TO ENLARGE.

Great pictures. That has always seemed like a fun event. We love to go hard both of us full out. The only problem is that while we are fast enough to have some fun, we are not nearly strong enough for an event like that. Averaging 25.6 mph - wow

Thank you. They made us wear them because we are just nutty enough to ride a tandem! :)

Actually, they are made by Coolibar of 50SPF material and are fairly cool in the summer even with long sleeves. I had been wearing a sky-blue shirt but a few years ago a neighbor who also rides passed me one day and said I blended in with the summer greens. And when I started thinking about color options I noticed that against autumn foliage day-glo orange and to a lesser extent even day-glo green disappears. So I figured platinum white might be distinctive. So far, so good. No one has mistaken me for a tree.

No-one nearby to snap a pic of the 2 of us. This was taken Thankgsgiving day. I have been traveling a lot for work but we try and hop on and take a spin when we can. This is our first ever tandem at 50 years young for the both of us. We stopped single riding a couple years ago as my wife Linda's knee bothered her. She does not have issues with tandem riding. Perhaps she is not pedaling?

Hey Turbotandem, Great pic at the top of the pass! :thumb:

We are considering buying a Paketa to replace our KHS. We don't know anyone local that has one so I would like to get your input on the bikes ride and handling and the build process with David Walker at Paketa. I have had some conversations with him via email about the bikes but we're in SoCal and I'm a little concerned with fit on a bike I won't see till it's built and shipped.
Any info on the bike would be greatly appreciated.

However we were not about to be discouraged by the fact that our shiny new da Vinci Global Venture (complete with custom dropped stoker top tube to accommodate Cathryn's arthritic hips) arrived the same day as Saskatchewan's first serious snowfall of the winter.

The purchase was based on a three hour ride on a rented tandem, and two words: over lunch I looked at Cathryn and said, "Well...?" and she grinned back and said, "Yup!" and our fate was sealed.

Come on, Spring!

So after a long layoff due to a broken foot, my honey and I got to do a tandem ride this weekend with a couple I met at Starbucks after a recent solo ride. We did a leisurely ride from Hillsboro beach to Boynton Beach on A1A along the coast and back on New Year's Day.

Sorry we missed the picture! We were the sixth tandem team on the Orange County Rebel Riders (http://ocrebels.com/) ride. We left early to make an appointment. Of course, since we left early, we ended up stopping for a minor equipment issue and were passed by half of the teams.

It's a mini-pannier meant for the top tube, from DealExtreme. (http://dx.com/bike-double-saddle-canvas-bag-114095) I'm going to order another one in red or black to match. This one is what is on the rack, under the rack trunk. Still small and meant to go over a top tube, but it separates. (http://dx.com/bike-double-saddle-bag-with-rain-cover-55521) So it can be used on a pannier rack.

That is such a neat picture - you have one skilled stoker! I have often pointed out such sights to my stoker, but I'd hesitate to ask her to take a snap and it would need great co-ordination and much luck as she's partially sighted and would literally be taking it "blind"!
