alright..how do i get the pictures to load??

The best and easiest is to upload the pic at Image Shack (http://imageshack.us/), grab the url they provide, and use paste the url into Insert Image.

Me and my 9 year old stoker daughter with our recently acquired and fixed up 1986 Nishiki tandem. This was on our first "official" ride on the Silver Comet Trail down in Georgia. We had done a couple practice rides prior. We are getting a pretty good rythmn and communication going! This bike is a lot of fun and I hope it gives us at least a few years of great times!

http://johnkscott.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/img_1051-1024x768.jpg

Wow! I didn't know that Nishiki ever made a tandem. Looks like a great bike. I hope you and your daughter have a lot of fun with it. Now I'm kicking myself that I never drafted either of my daughters to be my stoker! :-(

Thanks!

I didn't know either. We had been talking about getting a tandem but they ain't cheap. A guy was selling this at the finish of a popular century ride right by the finish line. My daughter was on the back (on a trainer) pedaling away and my wife was talking to the dude. Even though I had crashed pretty hard 18 miles out and I was bleeding, had a bum shoulder and shot to heck I decided to run to a cash machine and snap this baby up before I started the scrubbing out the wounds ritual in the hotel. Thankfully the guy selling it helped me load it in the van. No way I could have lifted that beast with my bum shoulder :D.

I'm so glad I took the time. $200 for the tandem, trainer, panniers, and all kinds of other stuff I haven't even looked through the box yet. I even got a set of clip on aero bars that were on the bike. Another $250 to get it road worthy and we are off tandeming with a pretty nice riding bike for $450. Love it!

By the way, we had a visit from the stork in this summer. We are looking forward to riding with our daughter.

This is my now 10 year old stoker and I riding the Dalmac over Labor Day weekend. 300 Miles in 4 Days. He never wanted to quit, but did offer to walk up one hill. Of course i wouldnt let him. The hill was large enough to coast up to 40 MPH on the back side. It was an awesome father/son weekend.

If you are ever in the Grand Haven area, let me know. We ride the 25 miles out there often for breakfast.

Excellent! I'll have to show this to my daughter. 80 miles. Way cool. Maybe that will inspire here to ride longer rides with me!

You know, kids are a lot tougher than we give them credit for. It's good to see so many kids taking their parents out for a ride. ;) Before I got the tandem my son, 10yrs old then, and I rode RAGBRAI together. He on his little Schwinn Primus (with DA9speed) and me on my single. He did awesome, even doing the century ride and getting in some pacelines(at the back).

Well we are not both in this picture but here is my son, Aaron, standing on the Stone Arch Bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis on a wonderful November day (before the snow starts flying). We were riding our older Burley Samba on a casual afternoon tour. He is a good stoker but always seems to "take a break" when I am battling a head wind! Taken from my phone so not the greatest quality.

My daughter and I, along with 3 other tandems, and some single bikes did 35 miles from Independence MO to Buckner. It was our second longer ride on our new Cannondale (09's road model). In addition to the normal route, I wanted to take a very steep hill to see if our 11 X 28 cassette would be sufficient (I recently swapped in from an 11 X 32). We went up the steepest hill in our area, at least 7%, at times probably greater than 15% grade. I was standing up and we just barely made it up, speed was probably around 5 mph... I think the 28 tooth cassette will work just fine, we certainl don't encounter hills this steep on our usual rides.

Here are the two of us on our new (last year's model) road Cannondale. I've swapped the shifters for some Campy Centaurs (big improvement over the Tiagra's) and have made a few stem adjustments to make it fit the short stoker. All in all, it fits very well. This bike is certainly faster than the two of us on our 3 person tandem.

This is the feed zone - finishing hill at Seven Springs, PA in 2006. This lady can flat fly! She moved away so we don't get to ride very often anymore. The threat of those climbs with her small size forced me to loose 35 lbs for this race. Man I wish I could get back to that weight again!

djembob02: Looks like the two of you will have lots of fun in the upcoming years! I've often wished I'd had a tandem to share before my kids were grown.

On a different note, I think I'm seeing a significant protrusion in the stoker handlebar extension through the stem and aimed toward where the stoker's chest would be while on the bike. It seems like this could be a source of serious injury in the event of a crash. Since stoker won't be getting any smaller, is it possible to cut that protrusion off?

Hi, I saw these coming through in the server logs - you were trying to post an html page as an image. That won't work - it always stumps me how to explain the difference, but the image is not the same URL as the page it lives on. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is simply to paste in the link to your page:

Hope that helps,

2x2 with LA friends on Shelf Road above Ojai, California last Sunday. Our first mutual tandem ride with friends. We have at least three other road-riding couples we're encouraging to try tandem riding. Riding on a tandem is a hoot, but with friends who also ride one is a "hootie-hoot, hootie-hoot!"

This was a while ago, not that we're not still happy... :)

It's an early-90s Huffy Albatross, with surprisingly decent components. We use it mainly for errands and getting around town, but here's a pic from an organized event.

Chichi thank you for posting something to move this thread up again. I was just thinking I might do the same thing 2 days ago.
Here is a picture of my wife earlier today in Anacortes, Washington. It was in the low 50s today (which is unseasonably warm for here in February).
For some reason she wanted me to mention she is wearing a number of layers including a sweatshirt. For those familiar with the Adventure Cycling Association, Anacortes Washington is at the western end of the Northern Tier.

What should I find in my Santana promotional email today, but the same pic of the chichi's that is up thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?391947-Pictures-of-happy-tandem-couples&p=8747900&viewfull=1#post8747900), only representing California, not New Zealand.

Nice pic, I could see why they would want to use it.

Love the pictures and your home-built tandem! I visited Romania a while ago and thought that it was very beautiful and the perfect place for a hiking/walking holiday. Now you have given me an idea..."A Transylvania by Tandem" vacation! The place is magical with all the fortified villages and ancient castles...perfect for cycling....!

An overall success but Arlene's search for padded cycling shorts and an super-soft saddle is underway. Her red cycling jersey, helmet and gloves were a valentines day gift from me. She looks happy but is unaware that its a 15 mile ride to the restaurant for dinner this evening.. :-)

Rode the Rice Valley Tandem Rally this past weekend (95 mile "century"): great weather, friendly folks and (almost too) flat! Returned to cycling after 20 years in August '09 and bought our daVinci in May. 2200 miles later we're still married. This picture is at the 70 mile mark give/take and my wife was experience some seat discomfort around 40 miles; some on-the-fly seat adjustments and she was able to gut it out. Picture courtesy of DanH on his daVinci with his SO Kathy. We enjoyed their company for the last 35 miles. The second loop of this ride circumnavigates the Sutter Buttes, the worlds smallest mountain range actually a 1.5 million year-old volcano.
