Fifty Plus (50+) - i join the club today.
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hi guys. today i'm officially over the hill. i'm hoping that means i can kick back and coast the rest of the way, though i'm afraid that won't be so. anyway, guess you'll be seeing more of me in here... the birthday wasn't much and i'm not super excited about the whole affair. but i did recently return to biking and now bike to work (university prof) and have been bitten by the c&v bug. in the last year i've bought maybe 16-18 bikes and have given several to my students. two favorites are my raleigh international and my moulton, an am7. but usually i ride raleigh sports around town, i own three of them...
anyhoo, thought i'd say "hey".

Welcome to the club! It's a great one and many of us have been members for a few years:)

Ah to be 50 again...and only have to ride 50 miles for a birthday ride.
Welcome to the club and many happy returns.....

No coasting around here except between climbs. ;)

Welcome, Welcome. But don't count yourself as being over the hill yet.

It's sort of like joining a mafia family. Once you're in, you're in for life.

Welcome to the asylum.

Quite a cast of characters here. They will help with whatever they can, and a bit gentler than the road forum.
Over what hill?
02-26-08, 08:22 PM
Is there a story behind the name??
Welcome!! I'm a little ahead of ya but I still haven't quite got to the top of that darn hill just yet..........
02-26-08, 08:51 PM
Happy birthday, and welcome aboard!
What's your field?

Welcome to the club...
If you are like me, there will be days when you will feel like you've been beaten with a club. When you do, come back here and we'll help you feel better!

howdy folks- thanks for the nice responses. i feel like i'm entering high school for the first time...
'roseskunk' is a dumb name. my dog is "rose", she's a chocolate lab pound puppy. my nickname is "skunk", not because i smell, but because since i was a kid i've had a beard, all black with a pure white streak on one side, hence, "roseskunk". i'm a professor of art, photography specifically. been doing it for years. i'm just getting back to biking but really enjoying it again. hopefully i can hang with you folks awhile... v

Now for the first Order of Business.....we've got to advise you
into buying another bike!!!!!
Be sure and start a thread when your neck, back or knees hurt. Complaining about younger riders riding too damn fast is always welcomed, as is any ride under 20 miles you'd like to gloat about. Have fun, but only if you want to.:D

So far this decade is my favorite (I'm 53).
Glad you're back on the bike, and how cool you are to give away bikes to your students!
See you on the road!

Welcome to the forum. Someone cue up our theme song from "Hawaii Five-0"...
There was a hill? Is that why I was so out of breath?
Welcome, it is a nice forum, whether you ride a little or a lot.

... and how cool you are to give away bikes to your students!
I agree! And to think when I was in college, I had to scrounge up my own campus bike . . . a rusty Schwinn Varsity. But is sure made it easier to get to class on time . . . OK, maybe a little late . . .
Welcome to 50+-ville.

Welcome from Cebu Phillipines!

How many bikes do you own?
What type of saddle do you use?
Clipless or not?
Road or Mountain?
What kind of pie?
Do you know any Norwegian jokes................no..................good.

Welcome Roseskunk. The 50 Plus Forum is just like the Hotel California. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
02-28-08, 07:58 AM
You just pick up speed when you're over the hill. Welcome!
02-28-08, 02:22 PM
All these wannabe members and I must be missing out on something. Have not had a copy of their bank details yet to pass onto dnvrfx- Have no idea what bike they ride- and Haven't had the slice of pie yet. Don't even know how many feet of snow they have in the drive- so watchout- This one may be an imposter just out to glean all the Hints and Tips on how to stay young- and then he will be off to the Mountain Biking section.

Happy Birthday - and welcome. Please provide more details.
About "over the hill" - no you've only reached half-time.
Welcome and Happy Birthday! I agree with RedRider. This decade has been rather wonderful.
