I'm looking for a new wheel set for the upcoming season. I'd like a wheelset that would be of a good grade but also on a college students budget (something that I will not have to replace in the next couple of years). I currently have the "stock" rims that come will the Specialized Allez, but I kept tweaking the rear wheel due to my 6'6" 235 frame. I now have some peice of junk wheel that was handbuilt which is sturdy enough to ride but I'd like to get a nice wheelset that is roadworthy. the local shop wants me to buy the Roval SL's but I feel that his opinion is a bit biased based on the fact that those are basically the only brand they sell. Any wheels that would be compatable enough for my size, easy on the pocketbook and race worthy? Thanks

If you think handbuilt wheels are junk, forget it.

What are you looking to spend?

I don't think that handbuilt rims are junk, but I feel that the wheels I have aren't worthy of racing and I don't feel like buying a new wheelset in the middle of the season because my current set didn't hold up. I'm looking to spend under 800 dollars as long as quality is key.

Mavic Askiums are around $250 a pair retail and don't have a weight limit.

In that price range you have lots of options. Mavic Ksyriums are probably a pretty good option. I've heard lots of good things about Neuvations as well.
