I'm looking for an out and back leg (total 30-40 miles) of the Great Allegheny Passage as part of a trip I am taking this spring. I 'm thinking the Connellsville/Ohiopyle would be good leg. Does anyone have any other suggestions? (I want to be relatively near the turnpike).
How is the trail surface? I was on the C & O portion over 20 years ago and it was as if it had been bombed.

Planning to the ride the entrie Great Allegheny portion the end June. I have heard that this portion is in way better shape then the C&O. Crushed hard packed gravel all the way to the C&O from Mckeesport. Haven't ridden any of it yet.

I ride that portion of the GAP yearly. Surface has always been in great condition. That out - n - back ride is roughly 34 miles. Food, and other services on both ends also.

I live in Connellsville and ride that section several times a week. It's a great ride, but may still be wet and muddy in early spring. Otherwise beautiful ride. And as already mentioned there are services at both ends. The scenery at Ohiopyle is also nice.
