Okay, so I like Djarleen tea the most right now because it is a good break from Earl Gray... but I am on the looking out for something new for the mornings.

What flavor works best for you when you are dunking the teabags?

although Earl Gray shakes are the best, they remind me of the leftover milk from a bowl of fruit loops.

I'm green tea all the way. Sorry...I know it's boring. But if you get the real good stuff, it tastes like a mouth full of spring time.

High-grown, Darjeeling unless I really need a pick-me-up, in which case Ceylon. Black, either way.

I've also been waiting for the "Ho-bagging" thread...I can't believe it hasn't already appeared.

Half Jasmin / Half Oolong is the best combination I've ever had and has set the standard by which I judge all other teas.**

I was raised on tea, afterall (I'm Persian).

**Unfortunately, I've also spent some time in China buying directly from distributors/sellers along Beijing's "Tea Road." I can no longer be satisfied with most loose leaf teas here in the United States. Spending anything more than a month while on a cargo container makes the tea taste 'old' and now, sadly, I can tell the difference. Stained for life (no pun intended, but I'll take it).

Same here, 'cept it was in Japan, and oh boy, it is so much better fresh.

I'll pretty much down any sort of tea except that crap that they call "chai" down at Starbucks.

The "funny" thing that most people in the United States don't have knowledge of is that "chai" is the term for "tea" (in general) throughout most of Asia (basically from Persia/Iran through Bangladesh, the tea-heavy drinkers). The stuff they're ordering from Starbucks/CoffeBean/Whatever is actually "chai marsala" meaning, essentially, "Spiced Tea." It could be that Starbucks shortened the term because they assumed most people ordering from them wouldn't be able to pronounce 'marsala' without ******** it up. It's much easier to attempt a Euro-centric terminology than make an attempt at non-European language, apparently.

But then, how often do the people who depend on Starbucks for their drink terminology actually do some extensive (and thorough) international traveling? Not too much.

My first job out of college was writing copy for a large tea and coffee distributor. They would make the tea right on the premises. So I like strong teas. I use to drink english or irish breakfast teas but after visiting England I saw our Traders version weren't strong enough. So now I'm into Armenian or middle eastern teas. My favorite one now is the Gulabi Barooti tea. I don't know what it means everything else on the label is in Armenian, Persian and Arabic. Puts hair on your chest!

The term you are looking for is masala (also spelled massala), an Indian term for a spice blend. Marsala is a town in Sicily. I'm also under the impression that using "chai" as a shorthand for "masala chai" is common in India (much the same way that "tea" in the US generally refers to "black tea"). Using "chai" in English to refer to "masala chai" specifically is hardly unique -- a large number of our words for types of bread mean "bread" in the language they were borrowed from.

PG Tips, Tetley British Blend and Ceylon Tea from Sri Lanka (ran out of my stash I picked up on a couple of business trips and really miss it.) Try a Moroccan Mint Tea, I love it, but don't do it well myself. I don't find "Chai", ala Starbucks Style to appealing.

Love Hot Tea in the morning and Iced Tea all day long. Guess I must be from Texas!

For a great read about tea you may want to pick up the first book written about it:

My friend brought some Green Tea from China. Has very unique flavor, waay different from what is available here. Too bad I am running out. :(
For everyday use I like English Breakfast from Trader Joes. I also bought some Red Tea from Mothers Market. Never had it, so will see how it tastes.

Starbucks* "Chai" is made from a powder, not brewed. The resulting quality is predictable. I haven't managed anything drinkable without brewing it myself.

My tastes seem to go through stages. Right now its fruit flavored blacks -- Earl Grey and Black Current mostly. I'm also fond of Chai, Rooiboos, and Jasmine.
Kevin

*This is typical of most coffee shops, not unique to Starbucks.

Yuck. I hate both the margarita and pina colada flavors. Unless they make vast improvements, they'll ruin the taste of beer and wine for good.

The black cherry is good. But this should be in the CliffBlockBagging thread. :p

As for tea, I've gotten crazy about the Starbucks Passion Fruit tea (iced, non-sweetened until I put 8 packs of Splenda in). It's wicked delicious and a perfect posing beverage as it adds a spash of color.

I'm kind of confused. I thought teabagging was the act of placing your testicals on another persons head.

Here is the definition in wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teabagging

In any case, during high school I knew this person that used to pull his nuts out from under his shorts and teabag people at random.

Mostly green. Almost always some Yogi green tea to start the morning, as much because I like to read the daily aphorism on the tab of the teabag as the taste. I often have the TJ blueberry green at work, and once in a while have white tea at home. When I'm really ambitious I'll brew some looseleaf green, but I'm rarely ambitious.
