Hi folks

I am Tom riding a Giant Boulder in Singapore. It is a Christmas gift from my daughter and son in law. This means I have been riding regularly for a couple of months now. I have upgraded the bike to all Deore including the hubs which now propel Mavic wheels on slicks. So the bike glides along at a pretty clip if I want it to. I had tried riding a trail locally but did not like the dirt and the mud which folks here say are part of the fun!!!!

Many years ago I used to ride an Olmo roadbike but have not been on a bike for more than 20 years. I am retired and am 69 years old and having a whale of a time riding my Boulder bike. And if truth be told I am crazy as a kid when it comes to the bike.... and incidentally have not played a game of golf since the bike appeared......

I ride at least 15 km daily and on 2 or 3 days a week I ride some 50 km and gaining strength and stamina as I keep the regimen up. My average riding pace is about 20 to 22 kmh and from time to time I let the bike rip at 30plus kmh.... I should perhaps ride a roadie but then I am 69 years old though my body has forgotten that it has aged.....

I am glad to have found a forum which discusses biking in a friendly and useful manner.
Cheers

Hi Tom, there really is nothing like riding a bike for sheer enjoyment, is there? You aren't the only member in Singapore, by the way. There's paulimym, and phantompong that I can think of right off the bat...

There is no such thing as being too old here--check out the 50+ forum and let them reassure you!

Welcome to BF!

Welcome Tom!

I live near San Francisco, but have had the opportunity to do a bit of riding in Singapore while on some business trips. :)

There are other Singapore members, check out the Singapore thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=310744) in the Asia sub-forum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=247).
I posted my ride reports there.

Glad you are having fun with your bike!:D

Hi Msincredible

Glad you had a chance to ride in Singapore. Not an altogether cool place to push pedals but a safe one. We now have connectors linking public parks where you can ride for hours, some of which are treelined and very nice indeed, especially those along the shore line in the eastern part of Singapore.

Three days a week we babysit for our daughter who lives at the edge of the East Coast Park. While the wife minds that delightful 8 month old grandson, I ride for hours on the tarmac along the beach... many westerners in Singapore ride there and rollerblade there or jog.... will be riding there tomorrow...

It is terrific to be retired.... to have new tires....

Cheers
