I live in Massachusetts and I am considering a taking a trip through New York into Pennsylvania. I noticed that the statutes in New York seem to be a lot more "f**k you"-ish than in Massachusetts. I was wondering what the New York cyclists' experiences were with law enforcement. Do you get harrassed or ticketed for riding too far left or for riding on an expressway when there is no reasonable alternate route? I did notice on the maps that there are a number of important points where there is no reasonable alternative.

Forget law enforcement. If you can survive the cagers, you'll do just fine.
I rode on an expressway for many miles in the Hudson Valley, as it was the only way to get to the bridge. It was great! Shoulder was about 2 lanes wide, light traffic, plenty of room for everybody, even going across the bridge. Nobody hassled me the entire way.
On the other hand, crossing the Rip Van Winkle bridge nearly killed me. I will never, ever, ever cross that bridge again so long as I live.
I wouldn't be particularly worried. I'm from Massachusetts, but I do at least two bike related trips to New York a year. No issues.
