Mountain Biking - Magazine Subscriptions

What's the best mountain bike magazine to subscribe to? It's gotta have the latest news, suggested trails to ride, latest and greatest components, riding tips, etc.

I know this is a bit general, but any suggestions will help.

Nothing American is worth subscibing too. If you can find a copy of MBUK and subscribe to it. Or Dirt...otherwise keep your money and ask the lbs what they recommend.

MBUK- i like how they give you free stuff

Mountain Bike Action (MBA) is a kick arse, unopinionated mag with great articals, pics and the best bike/component reviews ever. And R.C. is a great guy and very helpfull.

Oh and by the way, I have some beach front property in Arizona if you are interested. :p


As for which mags you should look at, go with what the others have said. There is also a good mag from Australia (I think) but I will have to find out what it is called.

either "what mountain bike"... very good on the reveiws and latest trails.. and MBUK... Nice free stuff and a more comical side to the magazine... with bike battles (reveiws) components and "hype" which basically tells u all the good bits and bad bits that are under and overrated...

Actually... I think R.C. is a great guy but I'd rather ride what he's made than read what he's written.

Note - I used to have a R.C. designed Nishiki Ariel.

As for the magazine.... where are you located? MBUK is a great read, and the trail reviews are interesting but won't provide you with much if you're trying to find trails in the US to go and ride. Other than that, MBUK will have you covered and is almost always worth buying. I've never checked out the subscription price though - many of the UK magazines are actually cheaper if you just buy every issue at Borders or similar bookstore.

Dirt Rag is the only US mountain biking magazine I ever read, but it's not worth a subscription IMHO. I probably only buy about 1/3 of the issues after I've flipped through the pages in the bookstore first. MBA isn't worth the paper it's printed on...

I subscribe to Dirt Rag and Bike.

Bike is o.k., for the pictures. I bought a 3 year subscription on E-Bay for under $10 about a year ago. Content is limited and it keeps getting thinner and thinner.

MBA is pretty worthless. They did coverage of an unofficial DJ contest, and it consisted of one paragraph, and something like 6 or 7 pictures. Didn't mention who was there who won, anything. It was pathetic!

I like Dirt Rag, tend to be more liberal and advocacy oriented, but it gives a good read and portrays what I consider the "soul" of the cyclists. Freeriding is getting more press, but it's nice to also read about all the other aspects of cycling, like commuting and touring, even if that's not my gig.
