I am a college runner from MN but I also enjoy biking. I am a far stronger runner than biker but plan on getting more into biking now and want to see what I can do in duathalons.

Hi UMDRunner, what kind of bike are you riding? Are you out riding right now, or are you snowbound?

Welcome to BF!

Wow, another Duluthian! I am not alone anymore ;)

Welcome to bikeforums. I had a duathalon team (me biking) two years ago for the the Duluth Duathalon... that course is brutal!

welcome!
I have done duathlons for a few years now, if you are a strong runner you will for sure do well in duathlons, not to mention that they sure are addictive and a lot of fun!
there is a triathlon sub forum on here and you can discuss all you need to know in there.
good luck!

I ride both mountain and road bike. I am very new to road bikes. I bought my first "good" mountain bike last year, it's an 08 specialized rockhopper. I rode that quite a bit with some buddies then got interested in road bikes. I bought an 08 specialized allez sport at the end of the fall. I was concentrating on cross country at that point and the weather was starting to go bad for biking so I've only been on 2 rides.

Winter biking isn't too bad in Duluth.

Actually, some of the funnest riding is in the winter. Took a trip across the bay to Superior and back last night on my track bike :)

It wasn't too long of a ride, in the 20 mile range, only a couple miles were actually on the ice. Fun tho!

I thought about doing some winter riding, but I heard it just wrecks your bike. My roomate went once and his pedals got super rusty

Still, riding a track bike on ice sounds like interesting entertainment!

Sounds as if he didn't wipe everything dry. Salty roads can be pretty nasty, a lot of people have a beater bike just for winter riding.

Yup gotta clean up.... Or run up to the Rice Lake Reuse Center and pick up a beater bike (preferrably an old lugged ten speed), toss out the shifty bits and throw on some fenders to make a single speed winter beater that can be left outside and be ridden every day :)

I have a couple thousand miles on a bike that I built up for well under $30 (minus the rear wheel which I built to toss on a few different bikes).

ya, I have a beater mongoos bike that I ride to school, I guess it would be fun to take that out in the snow, like the heartley trails
