Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - What's the deal with the membership fees?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My guess is that this has already been covered, but I'm lazy and my connection is slow, so I'll ask anyway. It appears as though my options are for 30 years, 31 years, or 32 years. Is it ok if I'm a cheap ******* and just go for the 30 year membership, since it's half the price of the 31 year and a quarter the price of the 32 year? Just wondering.....
I wonder if bikeforums.net will be around in 30 years....

If you enjoy the community, you can put up the money for the 'longer' membership, and ask for a red star to be donated to someone who does not already have one.
Or, it just goes to funding the cost of hosting.
Many of us have donated stars to other members--it's kind of a 'pay it forward'.
But it's entirely up to you.

It is just a way to differentiate different "donations" since they are all effectively the same.
For me, my 30 years will last for the rest of my life, based on actuarial tables.

Ah, I'm picking up what you're putting down... Hopefull in the next few days (if my finances work out) I'll have a little red star by my name! Woot

Seems to me that with...
- the smaller size (multiple regional and tiny bike club own forums) and slow speed (rbr and mtbr) of other US forums
- the very low population, churn and vitriol on UK forums (bike radar, anothercyclingforum, cyclechat, ctc forums, etc.)
- single country use of "international" forums (cyclingforums seems to be predominantly Australian only) is anything to go by
...I'd have to say yes.
MTBR and RBR seem to be the most useful out of "the rest" but the slow speed and no subscription option similar to BF keeps me here.
I may be biased but the users here, compared to almost every other forum mentioned above anyway, seem to be more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
edit: forgot to mention the spam on cyclingforums - 10 mobile phone phishing offers for every bicycle related post. Either it's not moderated at all or their mods are so over-worked they've given up.
I seriously doubt that we'll be using message boards at all in 30 years.

Perhaps not, but the longer you wait to plunk down some coin, the shorter the time you have to amortise.

And thats kind of a matter of opinion. I don't find mtbr very useful at all :D
I agree with the rest, if I visit any other forums they end up being specific to my discipline instead of as generic as here :)
