:D Hello everybody, great forum. I ride a 1972 Schwinn Sports Tourer which I bought new. I try to keep it stock, but I just can't stop tinkering. In 1973 after trashing my second bottom bracket assy, I installed a Phil Wood and have never looked back. I just reciently moved to vintage friction Simplex bar end shifters, which I found new in Denmark (ain't the internet great). This is something I have wanted to do for many years. I have two sets of wheels, one with the stock Normandy Luxe Comp hubs laced to new Wienmann 27" x 1 1/4" rims with Wheelsmith stainless double butted spokes in a 4X pattern and Schwalbe tires. I think this is about as close as you can get to stock with new parts. The second set is Phil Wood 32 hole hubs laced to Sun 27" x 1 1/8" rims. I am currently trying different spoke patterns on the Phil Wood set, the front is curently a 2 forward and 2 trailing pattern and the rear is a half crow and 2X pattern. So far I'm happy with them.

I would like to do the Seattle to Portland this year, looking for local riders who ride their oldies.

Oh, immediately head over to Classic & Vintage and talk to stringbreaker and kpug505. Stringbreaker's in Sumner, and kpug's in Puyallup. Stringbreaker LOVES his Schwinns--check them out!

Oh, and bring photos of your Sports Tourer, too.

Welcome to BF!

Oh, and don't forget to check into the Pacific Northwest regional subforum. There's a few other members in Lakewood as well. There will be a thread on STP later on in the year, too.

Welcome! A few friends of mine are doing the STP this year, quite a ride! But looks like fun with some great scenery too!
