Well, it's that time of year again, already! I will be riding for the 2nd year in a row in the Police Unity Tour bicycle ride, from May 10th to May 13th. We start in Portsmouth, Virginia and ride our bikes to Washington DC over three days, covering a total of about 250 miles. We meet with other officers riding in from the north, and together, about 1,000 riders bike into the heart of Washington DC to the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial. What a site it is!!

The goal of the Police Unity Tour? To raise awareness about the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial site located in Washington DC, and, to raise funds for the Memorial, to keep it maintained and to cover the ongoing yearly expenses. These expenses include engraving of officers' names who were killed in the line of duty the previous year into the marble walls; to date, almost 18,000 names have been placed on the Memorial walls, as a way of remembering those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. The Memorial receives no government funding, only donations and funds raised through this bike ride.

Take a minute and check out the Memorial site at www.NLEOMF.com
You can learn more about the Police Unity Tour at www.policeunitytour4.org

My personal fund raising page can be seen at www.firstgiving.com/havs
You can make a donation, however small, on the secure site there.

Thanks for looking.

I know an officer from Bridgewater, NJ who did this last year. I think he's doing it again this year but I'm not sure. I'll have to catch up with him some time and ask.

Thanks for the positive comments! The bike ride is a great time, very well organized and supported. Riding in support of the National LE Officers' Memorial is a great cause; I would suggest any LE Officer who has not been to DC to see the Memorial, go out and see it during Police Week sometime. You won't be disappointed!!
