Question of the Day (Thursday)

Are you an Obsessive Compulsive Poser?

OCP (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=106114)

I don't think I am, but I'm sure others do! ;)

If I had the money, I'd do it. Blingy bikes look cool. I guess they might ride well too.

I'm a bean and an F.R.E.D.

I read the link, but some pictures would be helpful. Who is the poster child for OCP?

Yes. Except for my sunglass mirror. (Or maybe I should say no BECAUSE of my sunglass mirror!)

Your bike is the Anti-OCP.

I often wear kit from two different clubs at the same time, too.

That's actually a mystical, higher level of OCP... meta-OCP.

I don't wear anything fancy, but I do have my closet arranged "Garanimal" style so I generally match.

Starts with R....;)No, there's a difference between a real poser and an OCP. I've never ventured into the OCP camp.

Yes, Roadfix is guilty only of the "P", not the OC.

Not a poser at all. My bike looks cool, but I have succeeded in making it uber-fred. See:

The pic is a crappy cam-phone pic, so you cannot appreciate the full fred-ness of this bike. I have planet bike and indie bike stickers all over it (replaced the horrid-looking "Ultralite" decal it came with), and my rear light is secured to the mount with a cable tie. Oh, and the weave-basket comes off in bad weather and gets replaced by a totally fred milk crate.

I've got the Cervelo and the Team CSC jersey, however since my Cervelo is aluminum, I guess I don't qualify (see the sixth rule)

Not a poser at all. My bike looks cool, but I have succeeded in making it uber-fred.Unlike OCP, posing is not about the bike or gear. It's mostly attitude. I personally have been posing most of my life with mediocre equipment, regardless of type of hobby involved. With the right kind of attitude, even fred-ish equipment look very cool in your eyes, as well as others who happen to see you posing. :)

I'm in recovery. I admit that I'm powerless over coordinated bling.

Fortunately, I came to believe that a Power greater than myself could restore me to sanity. She took away my credit cards.

I remember when I was a poor college student and was off roading on my MTB when I went flying by an off road Poseur who was laboring up an easy hill. I did another loop on the trail and passed him again.

He was on a full suspension Carbon Fiber bike, and I was on a crappy rigid frame Schwinn.

I laughed about that Fat b*stard in his fancy clothes for days.

Although I could afford it now, I will never be a poseur.

OK...since you are in the know, what is the female version?

I like Wilma myself but that seems to be used by a minority, more often I've heard Fredwina or Fredrika...
