I currently use Speedplay Frog pedals. I have been using them for the last 3 years. I originally chose frogs because I had mountain bike shoes. I now have road shoes (Sidi Zeta) that work with the Frog cleats. Since I have purchased a new bike that will be not be used on family type rides, I have been thinking about getting a road pedals.

I plan on doing several centuries, more club group rides, and possibly some Wisport races.
I have ridden a few metric centuries with no problems - no hot spots.
I have never had the pedal unclip while riding.

I am considering Speedplay (X2 or Light action), Look Keo, or Campy Chorus. I would also be purchasing new shoes - Sidi Genius 5.5.

Is it worth changing or should I just stay with what I have and upgrade to better shoes (Dominator 6 Carbon SRS)?

How much of a problem is dirt with road cleats (Speedplay)?

Is the snow ever going to melt?
0F when I left home this morning - average high 36F for end of February.

If what you're doing is working for you, stick with it. I run my SPD's all winter, commuting, and CX with no concerns and Zero's on my roadbike. I generally think it's been a bit of a waste to run two systems. The Dominator 6 is an impressive shoe. I've run the 5's for 3 years now and may well upgrade to those this year.

Frogs are fine. I currently run 3 pairs of shoes and Speedplay X/2, frogs, and SPD equivalents on my rigs. I prefer Speedplay currently.

I have both the genius 5 and dominator 5. Same shoe, but I prefer the genius. Just an old school roadie I guess. Lugs seem to get in the way. ;)

My main concern with the Frogs is the possibility of unclipping such as what happened to recursive (with SPD). It seems that the Frogs would be less of a problem than SPDs. I guess any pedal can unclip so why bother worrying about it.

You'll have less of a chance to unclip from the frogs than the SPD. The frogs do not have any springs. The only way you can unclip is by turning your foot out. Period.

High of 42 here on Sunday. I'll believe it when I see it. I've been putting off replacing the chainring on my fixed gear until it clears up, but I dropped my chain 4 times on the way to work today, so I may not be able to wait that long. Unless the snow disappears by Monday. :o

As for pedals, I've settled on SPDs for walking and Look for crushing souls. I am careful not to crush souls when I'm walking or walk when I'm crushing souls. I am paranoid about replacing my soul-crushing cleats too.

Thanks for the replys.

Temp here is currently 40F. Been sick all week, not sure if I will get in any outdoor rides this weekend - more trainer time - great fun.

Psimet, been meaning to ask, what's up with the name? Everytime I read it I think of Quantum Mechanics (Psi-wavefunction), not that it is a bad thing, I liked most of quantum :)
