Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Pretty sure I'm going with a 08 Trek 1.2

Felt good on the 62cm Trek 1.2. Getting it for retail at $770 with a few needed accessories and I really like the guys at my LBS. If anyone has any red flags to throw at me for this buy go right ahead. I've read a lot of good reviews that refer to this as a good entry level road bike. Some have told me to look into the 07 Trek 1500, called the LBS and they are calling Trek. I'm not sure if I could afford that bike or not. This is already more than I ever thought I would be spending. Once again excited and unless my mind changes for some reason I should be a owner next week. I've only ridden uncomfortable crap before, so I'm pretty certain I will be happy with my purchase.

I have a 2007 Trek 1000 which looks like virtually the same bike and I love mine. Get the proper fit and enjoy.

Feeling better about my purchase, looking forward to getting out. Thanks everyone!
I love my '05 Trek 1000. Enjoy it! To the saddle point below, the stock saddle lasted 2 miles before I had to change it out.... This is the only change I have made to the bike so far.

You probably want to upgrade the tires and saddle right away. See if they'll help you with that.

I will NOT recommend a Trek 1.2. I've assembled a few, and the components are pure department store quality garbage. Fully specced out with lower-than-Sora 2200. The front derailer will rub the chain, as there is no trim adjustment and everything is a compromise when it comes to gear selection. The work that both the service manager and I had to go through just to get one working well enough for a test ride was not worth the labor put into it.

As a Sora rider, I'm going to have to partially agree with DD. For a first time road bike rider, Sora is just fine. BUT if you soon start putting on a lot of miles the lack of trim on the Sora's sucks. The front der can be a pain to get adjusted. I have mine dialed in so it's possible, but that still doesn't make up for the lack of trim. If you can at all find a way try and get something with upgraded components. If you plan on buying a new bike in a year then go ahead with the 1.2. If you are going to keep it for a long time find a way to upgrade. I cheaped out on my pilot 1.0 and now after a year I'm wishing hadn't.

'08 Sora has a trim feature and is nine-speed. The Trek 1.2 has a even lower shifter called 2200 and is eight speed, and sucks something awful.

Now that is some useful information. It looks like an 08 Sora equiped bike is the way to go.

Diesel Dan... What do you think of the 2.1? I've had my eye one since Trek bailed on the 1500 (really wanted a 1500, oh well)

Not sure what the difference is, but I bought a used Trek 2200. It has Ultegra and I love it. I bought my wife a new Fuji newest 2.0 and she likes it alot. Im sure its not the best bike in the world, but it works for her. Good luck either way it goes.

Never got to assemble a 2.1 before leaving the Trek shop for the Raleigh shop. Anything with Sora or better would be better then that gawd awful 2200 that Shimano has out. I just wish the lower end Campagnolo (Xenon or Athena) were available in the USA.
