Introductions - Greetings from Michigan

Salutations,

I'm 37, and have been an avid cyclist since I was about 15. I purchased my first good bike in '87 from Bike Nashbar (their race SIS bicycle, with 600EX SIS group, Tange2 tubing) and still have that bike today, sitting on my fluid trainer. I can't stand to part with it after 20 years of faithful service.. haha I have recently also picked up my two current bikes: a Trek Fuel EX 9.5 '07 model (I know, me and everybody else who has one), and a 2007 Kestrel Talon road bike, with Ultegra 10sp group, Fulcrum 5 Evo wheelset, Profile clip-on aero bars, and a few other accessories like that. I'm currently working on fiberglassing a rear wheel disc/wheel cover set for the Kestrel to reduce drag a bit more without dumping $1600 on a carbon fiber disc from ZIPP or HED.

That aside, I work as a computer nerd/electrical engineer. My college degrees are in E.E. and English.
I received a kidney transplant (due to diabetes from age 3) on January 16th, and it's working well so far, so riding is light for now till I'm fully recovered and the incision is ready for harder riding.

I'm also building/have built a 1966 dodge charger big block that puts down about 700HP and 700lb-ft in torque. Full street trim, fully street legal 'daily driver' if you can handle the whole 5MPG part of it.

Other sports I've been involved in, include: archery (recurve), fencing, martial arts, rowing/crew, and lacrosse.

I can't think of much else to add for now, so I'll leave it at that.

I've seen photos with worse backgrounds :D . Just make sure you get the drivetrain in there. And closeups of everything important ;) .

The rule is a white garage door... Mine however are red. Usually my back drop for my photos is a purple Beretta, but that car is gone now.

You obviously know you need to take care of yourself and I'm glad to hear your back on the bike some. I was off the bike completely for 3 weeks after nasal surgery. It's amazing to me you're riding already. But then again, activity is a good thing just don't over do it.

If you decide to do the TDC where would you be riding? I'm doing the one in Brighton on June 8th. I'm slow and so are most of the people who will be riding with me. If you're up for it we'll be happy to have you along.

And your charger makes me think of the Chevelle I bought when I was younger.. oh how I miss that car

By June I should be in good enough shape for the Tour. How long of a ride is it? Maybe I will join you, barring any complications. Brighton isn't all that far away really. I'm by Ludington.

The Charger is a fun project. It runs low tens in the quarter naturally aspirated, but it's docile enough on the raod to be street driven in the Summer.

I just got her back from paint now, and she's a lovely midnight blue pearl.
I almost bought a Trek fuel ex 6.5 because the color nearly matched haha but I got a steal on the 9.5, and clearcoat carbon looks hot, too.

there are rides from 7 miles up to I think 70. My girlfriend was going to ride so I think I signed up for the 15. I plan on switching to the 25 if she isn't going to ride, but that depends on who else I ride with. I think my brother could do it. That charger is beautiful. My Chevelle was a medium blue. I don't know the actual name, but I loved it. It was a 1975 and mostly stock. Mostly rust free since it spent most of it's life in Las Vegas. 350 2bbl but I had big plans as all teenagers do. The car was gone for years before I sold of the edelbrock performer intake and carb as well as other parts I had gotten for it.

yeah I saw the brighton tour page, and noted the rides from 7 to 70 miles. I wondered which you planned to attend.
15 I can handle. 25 as well. More than that just now and I'd be pushing it.

yeah, right now is "early bird" registration. I certainly won't be doing any more than 25 this year so don't worry about that. I would love to have you along, but I don't want you doing anything to jeopardize your health either. There's certainly no shame in thinking about it for a while, or bowing out until next year.

I have a cell phone now, so if things get to rough for me and I peter out, I can always call in a ride back. That's one thing I love about riding now that I wish I'd had back in the 80s when I did a lot of long rides around the DC/Va/Md area, like the W&OD Canal trail. No way to call in support back then.

I almost miss the days before I knew how important a backup plan was. It seems like nothing ever happened before I had a cell phone or spare tubes and a frame pump. Now things only happen when one of those items is left at home.
Of course, there are the mornings leaving work after a large snowfall when I wouldn't call for a ride because she told me not to ride to work the night before....oh what a wonderful thing pride can be...
