Its run by CBR. They have an ongoing feud with SoCalCycling.com, so you never see the races posted there. While I respect what CBR is trying to do, the guy who runs it is supposedly a bit of an a**hole.

Supposedly. Get to know him and you might like him. Regardless his heart is in it for the growth of the sport and he's not using the sport as a way to make money or support himself. He puts on good races and awards a competitive prize list. I've known both parties for 15 years +. I still like Chris. Socalcycling.com is in it for the money. That's their prerogative, but I don't think it's cool that they send a newsletter to my e-mail, at the request of one of their paying advertisers, to inform me about an upcoming event. They have my e-mail because I joined their forum. I wasn't informed that a condition of joining would be me getting paid advertisements. If I want the information, I will go to their site. Would you guys really want to receive a bikeforums newsletter at the request of one of the advertisers? CBR information is available at scnca.com and californiabicycleracing.org. Obviously many socal people are here and can find their way to more than one website so I think once people know they won't be too inconvenienced looking for the CBR races.

Josh (Redal), I will remove you from our email list. All you have to do is ask or opt out. We sent out three or four emails in the last year that included cycling news, information on the Rose Bowl Ride situation and upcoming event info that cyclists may find helpful. It is not our intention to spam anyone and for the record we do not sell our email lists. Never have and never will.

It is our goal to provide an informative resource to the cycling community. As you already know, we also give back to the sport by running and supporting our Cat 1/2 Team of 8 riders with entry fees, clothing and all of their equipment. We also donated to your team, the SC Velo Junior Team. Therefore, I disagree with your assessment that we are in it for the money. We have to be fair to the time we put into making SoCalCycling.com an informative resource for the cycling community as it is not our primary business.

Feel free to contact me offline with any questions ... or ask me when we are riding back from the Montrose ride ...

I forgot about this one. Hmmm, should I appease my wife by hiking with her on Sat and then do this one on Sunday, or continue with my plans to do a century on Sat and make her do the hike on Sun?

I last did the Dash for cash in 1996 and all I remember is pain every lap because it was sprint after sprint after sprint.

On scnca, it was listed for Garden Grove. I was excited because that's my home city. :p Was it originally supposed to be there?

Hi,

The guy who runs CBR can be difficult, but without his sincere intent to make the sport better for most of us, there would be many fewer opportunities to race in SoCal. Also the gal who really runs CBR is generally very nice (just don't get on her bad side <JK>). :)

Anyway, you have to deal with a lot of different people in life and you have to learn who is helping you overall and who is hurting you. IMHO, CBR is helping.

Oh, and for the OP, the CBR web site is here:

http://www.californiabicycleracing.org/

I'll be racing in the 50+ and probably 40+ 1/2/3.

the guy who runs CBR is a bit a jerk, BUT he does put on good races and that's all that matters. i think everyone appreciates what he contributes to the sport in southern calfornia.
i had an encouter with him after a race a couple of weeks ago when i finished 3rd, but the officials mistook me for another rider with a similar number who had been lapped and crossed the line just in front of the sprint. they listed me as OTB! but when i lodged my complaint and had someone there to back my argument, chris would have none of it. fortunately, we were able to square it away with the official and all was good.

see you guys on sunday!

Anybody know how full the 5's are? I have a teammate who just decided to race but missed the pre-reg deadline.

Also, anybody doing the 3's race? Looks like I might be out there by myself.

I think Chris is OK....he is a bit caustic but i also think he gets fed up with dealing with the CAT5's as most of them/us are freds. Dealing with him outside of the arena of arguments and he seems fine, i hope CBR stays here as it adds ALLOT of racing to SoCal. I'll be there on sunday!!! see ya'll up there.

He seems happy giving his speech to the 5's at every race. Hell, he could just let us go out and kill ourselves..

Christy (socalcyclingcom) I will apologize to you in the public forum, since you posted this in the public forum. My post came off as more of a bash on you guys than it was intended to. As you mentioned in your PM, Chris can fight his own battles. However, I am sure that he doesn't hover over these boards, nor do I think he cares what people think about him. From what I've seen in your forum and here, he is taking a beating for not having his races listed on your site. I don't think it's that big of a deal for people to have to look at more than one site. That doesn't make Chris an *****hole but people seem to hold that against him. I like the guy and have dealt with him at a personal and professional level and have never been wronged by him. If CBR doesn't continue socal will lose many good races. The fued between you two is not the only reason CBR wouldn't be around next year but if people don't realize that there is more than one race website in socal, the fued could contribute. I am apologizing to you because I think I took the post about him being an *****hole more personal than I realized and in trying to defend him, I bashed you (the other side) more than you deserved.
The e-mail issue bothered me as well and I failed to mention it to you any of the times that I saw you. However, when I read the post where Chris was referred to as an *****hole, it made me think of that newsletter. In an e-mail to Chris from you, posted on his blog, you are writing about the newsletter and write, "for the most part it was created to help promote the upcoming World Cup at the request of AEG". AEG advertised on your site. When you spread information using your e-mail list at the request of a customer, it seems like selling my e-mail address. I could be wrong as I don't know all of the conditions involved but at first glance that is how it appeared to me.
I appreciate the fact that you do support junior cycling and did make a donation to the junior team of the club that I ride for. I think you have already been thanked publicly in your forum but I will thank you again.
I know we will probably never be friends again but I am apologizing because the cycling community is too small to have enemies, especially considering that this forum reaches worldwide but you and I live less than 10 miles from each other. I apologized here because you responded here. Post anything else in the PM.

I guess my post touched a nerve. Sorry to Chris and anybody else I might have offended. I made the comment offhand based only on rumor, speculation, and secondhand stories. Based on the number of people who came to his defense I was obviously in error. I have nothing but the utmost respect for what CBR has (and are attempting to) accomplish. Cycling in SoCal would suck without the hard work of CBR.

Like I said, it might have touched more of a nerve with me than it should have. In 1996 when I was only planning to race collegiate because I wanted to qualify myself for nationals at SLO, Chris offered me a spot on his team and paid for all of my races while letting me race a schedule that complimented the collegiate races I needed to do. As a CBR member I have witnessed him put on excellent races and I have always seen him display the utmost fairness to everyone involved. He is very abrasive and I can't say that I've witnessed all of his actions, I just think he gets an undeserved bad rap sometimes.
As far as socalcycling.com, I apologized earlier because I feel that my first post was a little harsh with regards to them.

Now thats out of the way, I believe there's a race tomorrow ;)

Somehow I volunteered myself to drive a teammate down to the 5's race for a 7am start. I'm getting up at 5am even though I'm not racing until 1pm!
