Commuting - Shifters on bar ends?

Has anyone ever taken typical MTB style trigger shifters/brake levers and put them on a bull horn bar, or used a setup similar to the Bike Friday bar? I'm curious, because I, like most people who have drop bars, really don't spend much time in the drops. I use the hoods, which are sort of like being out on bar ends/using a bull horn style bar. Having my hands with the palms facing the stem is more comfortable than with my palms facing the road. The trouble with the hoods is that I can't really get a full grip on them and still brake effectively. Perhaps my technique with the drop bars is poor. Perhaps I'm not explaining myself properly, but it seems like it would be pretty comfortable. This thought is spurred by my recent fetish for disc brakes, and most disk brakes are found on straight bar commuters like the Trek Soho and the Scott SUB 10, and straight bars kill my wrists....

Maybe something like the On One Midge or WTB dirt drops (flared drop bars)?

I personally love my drop bars but as my Sora shifters wear out, I am contemplating a move to Kelly Take Offs to mount downtube shifters inside of my drops...

The cheapskate in me thinks this is an interesting idea. Road shifters are pricey.

I wonder if SRAM Grip Shifters could be made to work on a moustache bar?

That might alleviate having triggers in a awkward position on the bar...

I believe moustache, Midge and the WTB bars have road outside diameter, so the grip shifters will not work. I think North Road bars would work though. You could even turn them upside down to give you that almost moustache bar look and feel.
