Texas - Visiting Austin - group rides and/or races?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to be in Austin on business from 3/9-3/18, and though I'm not yet sure how much time I'll have, I was hoping to hook up with some group rides or races. The only thing I can find on any race calendars is the Fayetteville Stage Race, but I'm not sure I'll be able to swing renting a car.
So, hopefully you can help me -
- Are there any training crits/tuesday night races/things of that sort in the Austin area?
- Anyone here ride from Nelos Pro Cycles, M/W/F @ 7PM? What's this ride like? Found this on the ACA (http://www.austincycling.org/rides.html)website, along with a bunch of other weekly rides - anyone know if you have to be a member to ride?
Any BF member rides? Other suggestions? I'm staying in the UT Pickle Center/IBM area.
Thanks :)

I never get out of work in time to join in on these evening rides, but a couple of other places to post are:

Once you are on the main page select "Speak" and you will then see the Austin forum. Mostly dirt jockeys but several people do both.
Also there is a yahoo group called "Austin Road Riders" that is pretty active.

The ACA rides are nice, I usually get to one every weekend. They have a pretty good turnout. You don't need to be a member to ride on them.

Cool, thanks! looks like I'll have a bunch of options. No races though, huh? Does everyone go to Fayetteville that weekend?

If you look at the Sticky in the Texas Forum, there is one that lists rides, and I think a couple of charity rides fall in your time. They aren't races, and aren't right in Austin, though.

Post up in the general forum on www.txbra.org (http://www.txbra.org) you should find plenty of racer-types to ride with. And yes, they have a Tuesday night hammerfest. I've never done it, but I hear it's pretty fast.

There is a Thursday night crit series at The Driveway starting on March 13...go here (http://teamhotelsanjose.com/thsjCORP/default.aspx)and then scroll down to near the last row of text to where it says Download Flyer (and then download the flyer).
I've enjoyed Sunday rides with the Austin Flyers (http://www.austinflyers.com/rides.html). (no membership required -- good people!!)
