Question of the Day (Friday)

What is your favorite Christopher Guest movie?

*I know he didn't write or direct this one, but he had a lot of fingers in it.

Doesn't matter, The Princess Bride is the best movie ever made. He was in it, so it wins.

To me, Spinal Tap with Best in Show 2nd.

For Your Consideration was AWFUL :(

I'm with agreement on The Princess Bride being one of the best all time movies, but it is NOT a CG movie. :p This is Spinal Tap (the original one, not the sequel) was so unique and such a classic. Waiting for Guffman would be my favorite in the last 12 years, followed by A Mighty Wind and then Best in Show. I never saw For Your Consideration but heard I should skip it.

The Princess Bride was the only one I saw. I've heard of the others.

Best in Show and Mighty Wind are my two favorites. Waiting for Guffman is funny too. Spinal Tap is a classic. I love Parker Posey's roles in his movies. She is such a good actress.

My favorite scene of hers is the pet store freak out when they don't have the dog toy she wants.

Like I said before, I'm not good with names. I've never heard of him, but if he's someone, I'm sure I'll recognize him.
I don't remember the characters in Best of Show but I enjoyed the film.

He's a member of the House of Lords (a baron) and married to Jamie Lee Curtis.

If they are actual actors, no I don't recognize them.

The one on the top looks like Vance. If they are actual actors, no I don't recognize them. He's definitely not a household name outside of the folks who enjoy the aforementioned films.

Perhaps these will help (a little?):

"My cassette goes to 11" is, of course, a mixed reference to Spinal Tap/biking. Great poll happytime!

I love his films... all of them. Just saw A Mighty Wind again the other night, it's my new favorite again.

Wha' Happened?

A Mighty Wind was under-rated, as far as I'm concerned. But I grew up knowing folk art singers and thus, the nuances of that film hit a cord. As for his last film, someone who saw it will have to speak to why it was so bad. I skipped it based on my friends' reviews.

I think I'd prefer death by lethal injection over watching any of those.

For Your Consideration is the only one of his mockumentaries that I wouldn't give an A. I'd still give it a B, but I can easily understand that it wouldn't appeal at all to non-Guest fans. I was really surprised when I first heard about the subject of the film, since he had already tackled the topic -- far better -- in 1989's The Big Picture.

+1

I've only seen three of these films and they all make me laugh. It's so obvious how much of him is in TPB. That his humor shines through without writing /directing makes this the winner. IMHO.

Yes, I've seen the film.
After googling his image in Best of Show I now recognize and remember that character in that film! :D

+1. The actual singing was so realistic, that many people will just admire the music, not knowing this movie is a parody of all the folk singers.

The Folksmen have opened for Spinal Tap, and they're so good at the folk stuff, a lot of people in the audience think it's a completely different band.

I went with Best in Show, but Fred Willard steals it.

The Princess Bride is an all time great, I can quote so much of it that my wife wants to kill me when it comes on. It's not really a Christopher Guest show, though.

Her character in Best in Show looked and acted exactly like my ex-daughter-in-law. If you know the movie, you know why she's an ex. :)

As owner of 5 dogs, including a bloodhound that looks exactly the Chrisopher Guest's character's dog in the movie, I had to vote for Best in Show. Loved them all though.
