View Full Version : Atleast the UK takes bad drivers seriously...
Cross posted from A&S, but with all the recent cyclist deaths in PDX I thought it was appropriate here too. Funny, in Portland you're surprised if the driver even gets cited....

Not to make light of a tragedy, but I'm glad that the cyclist wasn't blamed for running the red light. It seems that the court could see what was the more dangerous infraction.

I think you misunderstand the article due to the variation in the way Brits speak. The texting driver was the one who ran the red light.

The way I read it the cyclist ran the red not the driver.
It is a surprising decision though even if a four year jail sentence probably means about 2 in reality.
The courts must be getting tougher.

The article says 'he' ran a red light.

They're cracking down on people using cell phones whilst driving. Ads on TV as well.
OK, the posted article was poorly written. The cyclist did go through a red light.

Even here in Warden, drivers act like they have never seen a cyclist before. There are only ten thousand 10 year olds on bmx bikes roaming the streets!
