Road Cycling - 411 on Auckland New Zealand

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will be in Auckand, NZ for 11/8 - 11/22 for a vacation and have some questions for people who live there:
1. We are considering either dragging our bikes with us or renting once we get there. Are there any bike shops in Auckland that rent road bikes? If so, do you have the name and e-mail address of those shops?
2. What is the weather like in November? What kinda weather gears (if any) should we bring with us?
3. My wife is just getting back into biking after childbirth so, she's doing about 15mph. I'm do about 17 - 18mph. Can you recommend a ride in Auckland that fits our cycling level? Do you have any que sheets/mapped courses?
Thanks
I`m not sure if "Toolfreak" has returned from several months in N.Z. I have`nt noticed him on the forums lately, so maybe not.
You could try to P.M him, as I am sure he has gatherd a large amount of information during his tour....

If you had planned your holiday for one extra week you could have done the Lake Taupo Cycle challenge which is on the 29th November.
This is the biggest fun ride in New Zealand with 7200 people doing it last year. The route is a 160km ride around Lake Taupo, New Zealands biggest lake. In my opinion, having done it once before, it is one awesome ride.

Anyway .... to try to answer your questions
1) I dont live in Auckland but I'm sure there will be shops that rent road bikes, sorry not much help there.
2) November is usually pretty good weather as we start summer in December. Sometimes it can get a bit windy but I think the spring winds will have died down by then. Temperature will be around 20 C - 25 C. Just be prepared for anything ... mostly summer cycling gear will see you right but you might want to take a wind vest or light jacket in case of bad weather.
3) Again not living in Auckland cant help you there ... I know NZCyclist is from Auckland, he may be able to help you better.
Enjoy yourself on your holiday
