Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and I decided last night that we should go camping this weekend. We've been debating back and forth as to where exactly. She wants to go to Pisgah Nat'l Forest, or to Boone, NC.

Personally, I was thinking of staying in North Georgia. Maybe up near Helen and ride the trails at Unicoi State Park.

I/we are open to suggestions recommendations. Plus, if anyone wants to join us, that'd be cool to meet for some riding!

Here's some info to help narrow down the choices. My wife's still sick, so her energy level is low, so she won't be doing any riding, but I still will want to hit some decent trails. We'll probably bring her bike and my son's three wheeler to ride around some "easy" trails, or the campground area. We may also bring my single speed so I can mount a rack and the boy's child seat for some off-road trails with him (he's 3-1/2).

Tent Camping. Primative Camping is o.k.! (my wife has been know to "go" in the woods without complaining! - Me too!)

We live in FL, so Atlanta is an 8-hour drive. Pisgah is closer to 11-hours, so anywhere in between will work!

Oh yeah, we'll be bringing our dog, so we need a place that allows pets.

We'll need something to do during the day, like visit some cool places, some light hiking, would love to see some waterfalls.

Last thing, do you know if reservations for Tent Camping are required?

Road trip! Woohoo!

I was going to say something along the lines of 'great idea to get out one last time before winter', but then remembered you're in Florida. No such thing as winter, hey? :D

Very jealous... we had to decline an invitation to have a great weekend camp & ride on the Colorado Trail. Decided last week to jump at a chance to have a work-funded weekend in downtown Chicago for the two of us, so no riding for me for 2 weeks straight. Aaaarrgggghhh!!! :)

Have a fun weekend.... I'm sure whatever option you pick will be awesome.

I've backpacked in the Shining Rock Wilderness in Pisgah, but I don't remember much else.

Have a Great Time!

Here's NC national forest website. You may reserve camping at some CG I bet, but I've never done that unless we had a large group going.

Already in town. Sadly it's one of those 12 hour a day consulting jobs for these two weeks (but today's been a big execution day for programs, hence the BF time :D)... and the weekend has been planned to be pretty much jam-packed with eatin', drinkin' and dancin' with the wife. I've been out of town (and country) so much lately, and will be heaps until the end of the year, so I think I should dedicate this weekend to us.

Thanks for the offer, though. I should be back to Chicago quite a few times next year, so will definitely plan some ride time with anyone who's around.

a2 - Pisgah looks like a great place for some riding, especially with the family! Look forward to the pics of wherever you end up going...

If you are going to drive as far as boone or North GA you will be within an hour or 2 of Chattanooga. We are having our annual Fat Tire Festival at the Ocoee river (Cherokee National Forest). We will be riding Chilhowee and Tanasi trail systems and camping out. Festival starts Friday night and goes through Sunday (Even a pnacake cookoff :)).

Actually I bet Boone, NC is farther than Chilhowee.
