I decided to start doing custom wheel builds again for a side job/hobby and wanted to kick start it by doing the labor free for the first 3 customers in order to get testimonials. I figured the local people would like this better since they don't have to pay for shipping.

Just one more. I have two tentative locals who I'm waiting to hear back from after discussing their equipment selection. So if you want it, say the word and you're the third. After that, I start charging, which will be my only source of bike money my wife won't whine about!!!

btw the other thread explains the name, but I'm sure our "colorful" friends will appreciate the reference, as well. Our dog is a Rhodesian Ridgeback (mainly) who either doesn't have a ridge or got it burned off before he was rescued by my wife. Despite being abused as a puppy, he is now the sweetest, smartest, most respectful creature on the face of this earth... and the name will lend itself to an awesome logo for my wife to design later.

I love Ridgebacks...my neighbor had one...we used to pet sit for Rusty... he is the sweetest dog....

I am not ready, but will have no problem paying you for a wheel build a few months from now (hopefully)
Will you consult on best parts to buy? ie: spokes etc?
Can you also do hub bearing upgrades?

And someday I must have you teach me truing...something I have always wanted to know!

I'm more than happy to do consultations, and teach my local friends how to true a wheel. One of my favorite things when I did this 12 years ago was to recommend and build wheels for clydes on the velodrome who were sick of breaking spokes. I've never done a bearing upgrade, so I'd have to look into how to do that.

I know where to get them, but I'm not doing retail (at least not yet) so I could order them for you if you like, but they will be full price (most likely coming from cambriabike.com but there are other stores as well).

Hopefully you will get a rescue dog when you do. Despite its abuse, ours has a deep gratitude for my wife rescuing him from certain death. One thing for you to know: Ridgebacks were originally bred to help lion hunters find lions and keep them at bay while the hunter gets there. They're STRONG, as in he walks me more than I walk him! A lot of effort went into training him to stop pulling on the leash, leaving marks on my hand. :D

I'm assuming these are cartridge bearings? I know how to grease and repack cone bearings, which would be all it takes to swap to ceramics, but those are mostly a thing of the past it seems.

I guess it depends on the hub...my Ultegra hubs use loose ball bearings

Oh, piece of cake. I'll just have to see if ceramic bearings need a different type/amount of grease.

Not sure about amount...but I believe the grease is different...when I had my ultegra hubs upgraded, I purchased the bearing and grease for the lbs to do...
