Fifty Plus (50+) - Another new ride

It seems a lot of 50+'ers are getting new bikes these days. I'll add myself to the list. I had to find something to replace my old steel two-ton bike. Found a Specialized Allez Elite Compact that came in under budget, including pedals, seat bag, bottle cages and bottles. Wanted to go with a Roubaix, but it was just too pricey. The lightness of the new bike compared to the old is mind blowing. I've picked up 2-3 mph average speed with less effort. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9732629@N04/2304423129/sizes/m/

Great to get a new bike. See there is no ride report yet so Hope you get a decent ride it without too much to tweak to get it right. As no ride report- There is also no pie report either so hope you manage to christen it correctly.

Nice looking bike, good choice with the Specialized. ;)

I also see you have a trunk on that bike. My buddies friend is big time into riding/racing & saw our wedges on our bikes & called them a trunk. :eek::D Then he showed us what he uses for his tools, etc. & it is so small he just puts it in his jersey pouch so it is a big joke with us now.

Can't help it we come from hybrids with trunks & panniers so this is small compared to that.

Enjoy the new bike, it is so nice riding something so much lighter, just makes riding a lot more fun.

I would say that Specialized is winning the 50+ wars hands down. Must be a good practical bicycle company.

The Allez is an excellent bike, your going to have some fun with it.

What a pretty bike!

Its geometry reminds me of my Dolce Comp, right down to the Zerts inserts on the front fork.

I'm happy with it, and I wish you many smiles per mile on your new ride.

Nice bike! The Allez is a hidden jewel with all the focus on carbon fiber frames these days. I especially like the Elite with the CF stays. That crank looks nice too. Glad to See Shimano bringing the styling and technology of their upper level components down to the lines more people can afford. Several people in our club ride Allez(s) and they all seem happy with them.

Sorry, but that is one ugly-looking bike. It may be comfortable, light and fast, but compared with the classic designs it's just plain ugly. But I'm well over 60 and remember the classic frame designs and beautiful lines, so I may be excused.

I ride and love classically designed frames, but I can appreciate a nice looking bike in a different style. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but rudeness is not excusable whether you are six or sixty or whatever.
