Wanted to know the difference between a trek 5200 and 5500 frames. They seem to look the same. Is there any markings to the frame that says 5500 or 5200? Need help tp figure out if i got the right one if i buy a used frame. Thanks for your inputs.

The top tube should either have 5200 or 5500 painted onto it if it's not team colors. However, do realize they're exactly the same frame (OCLV120) except for the paint job.

The color of the bike is mostly white with the USPS color trek sticker. I don't know if it gives you the idea of the production year. I look around the top tube but can't see to printing or sticker that says 5200 or 5500.

Would it happen to look like this? (http://www.treknology3.com/2001/trek/road/images/5200_large_photo.gif)
In the case that it is, it's neither a 5500 or 5200 specific frame, but simply their OCLV 120 teamset frame. However, if it's a complete bike the 5500 would have dura ace components whereas the 5200 has ultegra.

Bigfloppy, the frameset i described to you was exactly the same color you had in your link. I bought a used frame and the only thing that could indicate to me that it possibly had a dura ace component was the cable adjuster for the rear gear shifters. But at any rate, i got the point that the frames are the same except for the components that's with it. Thanks a lot for helping me out. :)

If you buy the frame only from Trek, I believe it is sent out marked as a 5500.

The frames of the 5500 and the 5200 are identical. The decals are the only difference on the frame. The only other differences are the components which Trek puts on them.
