Did the 4s race (http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5083688)at 8:30 this morning. Field was over 60 riders, and the although the first 4 laps were not for money, the pace was pretty fast from the start.

My plan going in was to win a prime and then just sit in for a pack finish. A teammate in the 3s recommended lap 8 or 9 for my time to strike. Chester, my teammate in the 4s was in it for the end and planned to go conservative. The race played out with him being pretty active near the front, actually going for a prime early on but getting edged out by half a wheel in the gutter. I lost count of the laps and made a play around 6 & 7 but didn't really have a chance. I hid in the pack for a few laps and then went for it again, coming around the outside up the straight before the 4th corner up to Chester who was just about to move off the front. I came up on him fast and shouted "GO GO!". He hadn't known I was there, but when he heard me, he jumped and I got on his wheel. We had a pretty good gap on the field coming down the finish straight, but I had dragged someone else with me, and he came around me as we approached the line. I was at my limit and he was going faster, so I knew it was hopeless and backed off. Chester took that prime. Honestly I don't think I could have gotten around him if I wanted to.

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/chart/meter.mb?lapCategoryChart=true&applicationUnitContextDescription=speed&measurementModifierKey=max&chartRequest.plotOrientationToVertical=true&chartRequest.legendVisible=true&episodePk.pkValue=5083688&chartRequest.plotForegroundOpacity=0.75&chartRequest.autoFit=true&chartRequest.width=800&chartRequest.height=400

I was pretty well spent after Baker yesterday and those 3 attempts, so I just went and hid in the pack for the rest of the race. There was a massive accident on the bell lap that took out Kieth, so was right behind it. He is ok, but his wheel is tost. I avoided the accident--slowed down and and skirted around it, but had a huge gap to the rest of the field ahead. I worked hard to catch back on but was completely shot coming around to the finish. I did finish with the pack though, and I stayed upright, so I'm happy with that.

Pictures to follow soon. Kim got pictures of my race and I got pictures of hers (Women's 4), as well as the Women's 1,2,3.

That's a pretty hard effort after yesterday. That's one area (consecutive hard days) that was totally missing in my first year, and is a goal for this year.

There must have been a lot of jockeying in that field, no? As a different pocket of riders decided it was their lap to go for it?

See any other BF'ers? JP, Brandy?

Yes, there was a fair amount on jockeying it seemed. I stayed with Brandy and George last night and watched the end of his race and Kim was in the race with Brandy. There was Chester and Kieth in my race, and Cleave later, but nobody else from BF.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi. I left as soon as my teammates were done with the 5's race. Decided at the last minute to skip my race and did some climbing instead. I was pretty cooked from my ride the day before so I decided I didn't want to waste $30.

That's me in all of my races. Someone once asked me if I was really trying hard in my flying 200m time trials because I look like I'm out for a Sunday ride. I guess I have a good poker face. Too bad I'm not that good at poker.

Anyway, nice report and sorry I missed this one. Hope to see some of you out at the LA Circuit Race.

I wasn't there, I got up this morning and didn't feel like going outside until the temperature got reasonable. That, and I figured it would hurt. ;)

Enough with the babble...so how did you do already?? Curious minds must know (where is the tapping the foot emoticon?)

Okay, okay...

17th or 18th out of 30...the results were messed up, someone contested after the results were official and then they had someone listed twice, so we'll see.

Anyway...I didn't get dropped! I never felt like I was going to get dropped! Two good things. :)

I definitely learned a lot today...mainly...

I need more intensity work!
I need to get some better group riding skills so I'm more confident staying on a wheel...spent way too much time in the wind on the outside.

I was feeling pretty good and stayed mid or front pack most of the race. With less than 1.5 laps to go I'm feeling great and our race gets neutralized on the slight incline for the elite women to pass. The race promoter who was riding with us tells everyone to stop pedaling, but only half of the field listens so I go from 4th or 5th wheel to mid-back of the pack coming up on the turn. Totally confusing and had no idea when he was going to tell us to go again, but by that time there were women ready to take off when he called it at the line with one lap to go. Pretty strung out after the first corner but I managed to latch on to the back of the lead group, definitely lost steam on the incline before the last turn though. There were some STRONG women out there!

Avg speed w/o cool down lap: 22.29 mph
Max speed: 30.42

After initially being disappointed, I got over myself and remembered that I didn't plan to start racing until June when all of my ultra-distance events for the season were done and I could train specifically for intensity. I made a last minute decision last week to register for this race because I wanted to get at least one crit under my belt before San Dimas at the end of March. So...not too bad and I think that with some work, I could do better. :)

Congratulations, Brandy!!!! Woo hoo!!!! First race! Girl, I would still be standing at the back of the pack taking a pic by the time the race was over. :p I'm impressed with your results and I know that you are competitive (and, no, I don't think that's a bad thing!) and you'll just keep getting stronger.

You did great and should pat yourself on the back. Really nice pics of you (pretty and strong). You are definitely representing. :)

Thanks ME. I have to give a big thanks to everyone that stuck around for my race...Chucklehead and Crash, and Tiff who came out to watch. :) They were on the last corner and it was so cool to see them there every lap.

Big thanks to George who went and got me breakfast when everyone realized I hadn't eaten anything because I was too nervous. :o He was out on the back half of the course cheering me on and it was cool because I could actually understand what he was yelling at me. Usually...move up! :p

Oh...and my biggest cheerleader...my 7 year old! She watched the whole crit, yelling "GO MOMMY" everytime I turned the last corner. :) It was an intense spot in the race because of the whole "dash for cash" $10 prime every lap, but the woman next to me heard her and said "aawwww...that's so cute!" and I was proud to say "that's my girl!" :D She has requested pom poms for the next race. :p

One more thanks to all of the people (Keith and Cleave) who came up to wish me luck and encourage me. Everyone was so cool! :)

congrats to all for some great results. crash, ben, george for his prime, and brandy for getting out there and getting the first one under your belt!! not a bad finish, either, especially when you consider how much snow you plowed over the course of the race.

i was pretty disapointed in my performance. for as good as i felt, i don't have a very good finish(16th) or any money to show for it. i don't know what got into me, but for some reason, i got a bug up my butt and kept fighting for a spot near the front, which i NEVER do unless we're in the lap count. everytime i'd get cycled to the rear, i'd get outside and sprint back up to the front. that didn't hurt me until the last lap, though, when i kicked a little too hard and ended-up flying right by the front guys and becoming the tip of the spear just after we passed start/finish. at that point, instead of backing it off i figured what the heck, i may as well go for it. so i "chased" the two-man break(which we caught about halfway around, btw!), and blew up just before the final corner.
if it weren't for george urging me to sprint, i would have easily finished outside the top 20. it's amazing what a few quick words of encouragement will do at a time like that.

in the end, i like that i took the chance i did, because i typically don't do stuff like that. but i wish that i would have either waited til later in the lap or, better yet, really comitted and gone for some separation instead of pulling everyone around as far as i did. at least that way i would have given myself a fighting chance instead of going out with somewhat of whimper:mad:

all in all a really fun day at the races. and man.. there are some really cute chicks who race!

That race was fun....i chased allot for the primes but failed...got nervous cause my HR twice during the middle was like 196ish...calmed down...collected myself...

Rode smart, sprinted hard and got snuffed by half a wheel at the end to get 4th overall.

Made a serious error coming up the hill by not jumping about 50 yards earlier...i got kinda boxed and had to ride around 4 guys, i think my sprint had enough to hold off most the guys in the 5's had i actually jumped when the guys that got 1st and 2nd went.

Overall good day, good times and good crowd to chill with.

Thanks for the Fun Chuckles, George thanks for that pull...i needed it, and Brandy great job for the first one...most people get dropped their first time out, and Tiff...always good to see ya!!

ohh and found a new max HR of 204!!

Hello to everyone that was at Dash 4 Cash or Dash 2 Crash.

I did the 40 plus just mainly hid at the back until I got warmed up (long story) and finished "safely" in the field. I thought the pace was okay. It is weird riding the course in reverse. If you hit the bottom corner wrong you slid a little. I did like the up grade section, I had to use it to move up. Me and a teammate were keeping each other out of trouble.

The 30 plus was a kick in the @ss . A completely loaded field and everytime you moved up one space, you were instantly passed by ten others. on the last lap there was a real (REAL) bad accident. I was just behind and missed the bikes bottles etc.. I know there was a lengthy delay for a couple of riders that remained on the ground for a while. A rider from Amgen and someone in all black. I am not sure waht happened and I heard various stories at the finish. I think the accident was because something broke..I heard it.

Also I think there was a fight at the Start finish. The police had to break it up.

I am sure Chris will have a few suggestions for everyone.

I just got the low down on the fight. Apparently Chris got into a fight with a female racer's dad. Mom gets involved ..the announcer gets involved and finally the police.

I was just reading about it on Socalcycling. I was trying to find out how the Amgen rider was doing.

Not sure how it started though.

i wonder if it had anything to do with him neutralizing the W4's so close to their finish. as i understand it, some of the girls kept going when he told them to slow, and that caught several riders out. including brandy.

That makes sense. The womans race (cat 4 ?) was wierd. It looked like the field was rolling neutral and then he calls the finish. I was waiting to do the race after.

Oh...and I know exactly who the fight involved. She was one of the people who was contesting...she saw the results and saw her name listed at 14th place and she felt she was 5th or 6th across the line. She went down to contest, but the odd thing is that when they reposted the results George and I noticed that she was listed twice all along, in 6th and 14th place. They added another girl in that they thought had been lapped, which technically bumped her to 7th. I don't know if she realized that she was originally listed twice, or if she just saw the 14th place. Who knows.

First race...!! Good for you ! Welcome to NASCAR on two wheels.

When there are two fields on the road at the same time it is actually up to racers to help police themselves. In your case Chris was your rolling race official. I have known Chris for sometime and he does not mix words. Usually when your racing the same time as the Cat 1-3, you will end up neutral for about a half a lap until the fields get sorted out. The samething will happen at LA Circuit race. It is until the faster group passes the slower. Now this is the kick in the pants..usually the group that gets lapped will then speed up and try to pass the other.

The race officials had your finish to consider and will sometimes give you "one more -one more lap to go"

Complete chaos at this point.

As far as the fight goes..6th, 14th, not sure it matters. Of course now she is probably DQ'd. I had heard Chris saying that the guy that won the 30 plus 3/4 had an unsafe sprint.

The plan going into the race was to sit in and win... But I think I'm the most impatient guy there is because because the first money lap and I bridge to a 4 man move bringing a few with me. We duke it out and I kept yelling "work together- work together" but these cats don't have any intention of winning they are just here to try to screw everyone else up... we cross the line and I see max from UCSB and we try to get something going. He takes a monstrous pull, I pull through, but other guy just wants a free ride and isn't going to pull so we gun it. I come around max and and sprint to the line... I look back... no one... I sit up... BAM... I look right and number 601 had come from the back and beat me to the line my less then half a wheel... DAMN IT! well its my own fault for not protecting my line and leaving that gap to the curb. I get mad and recover for half a lap and then attack- I don't have a gap and there is a train coming up the inside so I decide to pull off and try to jump in it... Then I look back and see Weixy on my wheel. Perfect I think- I'll lead out the sexy weixy and he can take the prime. I dig deep and give it every thing I got. I dive the corner and pinch out the riders trying to come inside and then let it rip. I look back and Steve has lost my wheel so I stand up and empty the tanks. I'm able to hold off the others and take the prime... now my legs are starting to feel the surges and sprints so I sit it out in the back for a bit and rest... 5 to go: I start moving up. 4 to go: I keep moving up. 3 to go: I'm looking good and found the sprinters wheel who I want. He is Lagrange and has a 4 man lead out train and a guy sweeping for him. I pretend I'm Gary and sweep the sweeper right off LaGrange's wheel. I'm looking good- the train gets swarmed, I hear a crash, I jump so I don't get boxed in and find myself sprinting for a prime "Bad Chester I think- this is all wrong... 1 lap to go I should be saving energy." It's too late, Im at full gas. I lose the sprint by less than a wheel. I force my way back into cover.Half the Lagrange train is down but a few remain... We start to get swarmed... I jump a little too early I find myself on the front coming into turn 3. 'Dang-it, not the place to be... what should I do. Sit up? they might come around too fast and too many." So I jump, a guy comes around me I grab his wheel... he dies... I start my sprint.... It is WAY TO EARLY. I die and hold on for tenth place. All in all I think I raced one hell of a race.

That was a cat 4 only race. If you look at the other pictures I posted, you can see in the 1-3s most of them are in the drops.
