What a great group we had! Il bruto, Tombunn, IamTim, Weekend Warrior and Sally, Doppelg, a lurker and me. I won't say who the lurker was as it's my policy to not post real names of people unless they do it first on here. But I did warn him that if he didn't come out of lurker mode and get a handle that I would "out" him in a thread! :p Not really, but I do hope he now joins the forums and comes on future rides. The company was simply outstanding. No one was dropped, and I have to give a particular mention to Tom for his efforts today. He rode those hammered 72 miles yesterday and this was his recovery ride. Lucky for him, we dragged him on up St. Katherine's, which is no climb to sneeze at let me tell you! He did just great!! Way to go, Tom - I'm so glad you did that climb!
We had perfect weather today, and at the bagel shop, we were visited by celebrities, we posed for about 45 minutes in the sun, and then headed back.
I love this ride and hope to have one every month. It's a perfect balance and I hope more of you lurking will come out and meet us. If you are new to cycling, this is an excellent ride to come on*. The pace really was piano but not so relaxed that everyone didn't get a work out in. Those Canyons around the Rose Bowl have such beauty in them and are terribly under-rated (which is a good thing, I suppose, since it keeps the traffic out).
Really wonderful ride - thank you all for coming and to Il bruto, big kiss on the cheek! :)
*This ride does have traffic and is urban, so a rider must be comfortable riding in traffic and with other riders.

You guys went up St. Katherine's today? Damn ... I'm bummed. I missed it. That's one of my favorite rides. And what's funny is that when I do go up St. Katherine's, my route is probably identical to what you took on the Bagel ride. Oh well, next time, I hope.

Nice pics. Where is that dude's helmet. Not good.
He forgot it and his wife did too and were staying overnight in the area (which meant they would have had to driven a far distance to retrieve the helmets). They were very apologetic (not that they owned anyone an apology, mind you, but they normally wear helmets). I had an extra helmet and the gentleman immediately insisted his wife take it (chivalry is not dead, damn it!). But he normally always wears a helmet.

You know, Weekend Warrior told me they did one time! They are such a sweet couple. And seriously, she was happy to have a spare helmet to wear.

And he may very well. Tom is very strong on the flats. He hung just fine yesterday for a long time (and like me, he eventually went his own pace). He also busted a move today on the flats and descents. He's stronger than he realizes...I saw that today at a particular point in the climb. He knows when that was. ;)

I took a heart rate pause going up Corona. Starting up again, I had trouble clipping in to my new pedals and went over sideways. No biggie, but ME (in den mother mode) offered to let me skip the climb and I said I wasn't going to let some little hill get the better of me.

Nah...that was the plan. See, on my rides, I make sure you get a full workout and the feeling of being rode hard and put away wet. If you haven't cramped, puked or begged for your momma, you haven't been given your money's worth.

This is Sally. It's always such a pleasure riding with ME and everyone from this forum. She was such a sweetheart to lend me her spare helmet. Always a lifesaver. Thank you, ME, for defending us too, but it's our own oversight... I am looking forward to the "CUPCAKE" ride. Tom, you did a great job today after such a long ride yesterday.
