Southern California - Red Box Rendezvous...with maybe Mr. Wilson too, Sunday, 3/9

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have it on good authority that Ronjon will be in Solvang on Saturday.
But I set a strict curfew for him to be back in time to get into his box on Sunday.

My left butt cheek weighs more than she does soaking wet.

Hmmm, I think we'll have to verify that.

Hmmm, I think we'll have to verify that.

Great. Now we have to have a "Weigh MErider1's Left Butt Cheek and Happytime Soaking Wet" ride.

Damn it, I've already planned two rides this year thus far! Someone else is going to have to take this one on - and bring the scale, and do the weighing.

:p

How does one weigh a body part?

Without removing it first, of course...

We could have her dip it into a vat of water and see how much water it displaces, then once we have the volume of her cheek we should be able to come up with a volume to weight ratio.

Happytime

So how do we get the volume of her cheek? Do we need a numbers whiz like Jschen here with a caliper to get exact measurements?

merider1
03-05-08, 11:43 AM
So far signed up for the ride:

Jpconrad - bringing vat of water
Jschen - whiz who will calculate
merider1 - bringing left butt cheek
Happytime - coming soaking wet

Seriously. Mary.

What? You have to be wet for us to weigh you.

Laser scan using a CMM or dedicated 3D scanner.
Write output to IGES,
Assign material mass properties equal to human muscle and fat.
Read cheek properties using CAD, Solidworks works well.

Here is where your method won't work.:p

Or I can just grab it with my hand. I can come up with a rough estimate.

I think you'd need both hands and possibly a foot.

The implication being either that you're not human
or have no muscle in referenced area.

Just specify preferred species and or percentage of fat.

Or both.

Vance doesn't like me anymore. Or maybe he doesn't like you anymore. Or maybe it's the combination.

Like the meconrad or jprider1 thing.

Last I heard he was in Tucson for a Dungeons and Dragons festival. I got a text message asking if I had a "magic scepter to ward off spells of the fantasmagoric dwarf" or something like that.

Really? That's odd, I could have sworn he told me once that he really likes the fantasmagoric dwarf and that they hung together.

Hmmm...I must have misheard.

I'll be there, at least up to Mt. Wilson.

I'm in. I should be back from Geekfest in the Desert '08 by then.

Okay, so I updated the OP.

I have us meeting out in front of the Descanco Gardens, taking off from there, up to Red Box, then up to Newcombs for breakfast, back, up to Mt. Wilson and down.

Doppelg, you said only to Wilson? Due to time? In that case, I'll see how I'm feeling, and I may let the guys go up for breakfast, and I'll do Wilson with you.

I'm being ambitious about the climbing when, in fact, I haven't been climbing lately and this frickin' flu/cold/bug thing isn't helping matters. But my fingers are crossed for Sunday that I'll be strong and fast climbing.

Well, okay, that I'll be strong...:p

roll at 7:30?

merider1

Yes. Since we aren't starting at the Rose Bowl, I pushed it to 7:30am roll unless all of you want to go earlier?:)

jpconrad

Can't go earlier without lights.

Now, for the important stuff... what's for lunch? Are we going to that Mexican place near Descanso?

Well, that's a good question.

Gentleman, I'm trying to please everyone, but I don't think Doppelg can make it Newcombs then to Wilson and back (due to time), and I would stick with him (no riders alone up there). If we all decide to go up and to Wilson together and back, then yes - La Cabinita following. But you other guys may decide you want to go to Newcombs for brunch.

I'm the one who messed this all up by suggesting Newcombs after some of our miles got diminished due to Rose Bowl activity, but we could always add miles and a climb up St. Katherine's after lunch if we're just dying to. :D

Your thoughts?

http://www.amazingtoyz.com/images/STtng5set_pp_copy.jpgI'm confused. So Ensign Ro, Dr. Crusher, Nurse Ogawa and Chief O'Brien are joining for the ride?

If Counselor Troi were there, I would totally join the ride.

jpconrad

I'd rather eat someplace down the hill to be honest.

Now we could go AC to AF to AC to Wilson, too.

Are you drinking, Joel? What are you talking about?

And you're welcome to join, but not if you're going to drink and ride. I frown on that, you know.

Angeles Forest road? I remembered driving through these 2 roads in one very foggy night. My first time to the area and that experience is scary. :p

merider1
03-07-08, 05:08 PM
Oh, now I get it. :p

Yeah, John, that would work. And I love La Cabinita. :D You boys okay with La Cabinita? We can even ride there and put our bikes in the back room (and eat back there so we don't stink up the place)

merider1
03-07-08, 05:10 PM
Hey guys, I forgot. It's daylight savings on Sunday which means we lose an hour. You want to roll at 8:00am?:(

jpconrad
03-07-08, 05:10 PM
Ok, so going Angeles Crest to Clear Creek, then taking Angeles Forest to Upper Big T to Angeles Crest to Wilson and back down is 55 miles.

Perfect! Love it! :)

Everyone else?
