Does anyone else ever have a bad race day? You start the race and quickly find out that you don't have any energy in your legs. That happened to me today. Very discouraging.

Yes, I have had them. You need to go back and find out why. There is almost always some specific reason - rest, food, preparation, motivation, something. You need to figure out what it was so you can avoid it in the future.
I almost puked this last race, (first race) I did. The numerous hills got to me. I had a huge lead on my wave, so I slowed it down a bit and eased the pain off.
(I had caught up with the first couple waves anyway, I had time)
Yah, that happens. My first training ride with my first team was with a bunch of cat1+2 roadies and they rode me as hard and fast as they could untill I barfed then we did another 30 miles. I was stuck in racing ever since =] Eventually, your fitness will build up and that won't happen as much. Make sure to eat 3hrs before your race, and nothing to heavy.
