Has any one else noticed the large amounts of Trek 5500 and 5900 bikes on Ebay in the last couple of weeks. I just started looking and find this a bit unusual. The prices are too good to be true. A new 5900 w/10sp DA for a BIN of $2200. I have emailed a couple of sellers that didn't list frame size and they said they had most sizes available but would only accept wire transfers as payment. A couple now only list money orders only. A couple of these sellers required you to be a pre approved bidder before they would accept your bid. Some have been from new sellers but a few have large and positve feedbacks but mostly for low priced items. Luckily I have only seen a few bids on these items so most people know what to look for and to stay away from these sellers. You can find some great deals on Ebay but you must be very carefull.

i would only use an escrow account if i was to bid in that price range. have purchased a bike and a frame on ebay and was very satisfied, but i made sure i could pick up both in person so i could do an inspection before i paid.

I would warn that there are scammers on Ebay that steal other users ID and pass codes and then use them to lure the unspecting buyer off Ebay! There was an article on msnbc not long ago on how this works. I have even had an email sent to me claming to be Ebay wanting to "verify" my logon and password. I thought, this isn't like Ebay and deleated the mail, only to read this story on msnbc a few days later. If anyone gets an email like this please report it to Ebay, also never do busness outside Ebay for a better deal.
Some of these guys whyere making 40,000 dollars in a month running these scams! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

if it sounds too good to be true, it is. why on earth would anyone sell a brand new bike at that far below cost? either a) it's stolen 2) it's a scam. either way, i'd not risk it unless you protect yourself VERY well.
THat sounds like a scam.
Take note Trek doesn't allow their frames to sell online.
Many stolen bikes end up on Ebay for sale. That has been a problem in the industry as thieves can unload stolen goods easily.
However this sounds like a scam. If they are legit they should be a shop and give you all their information.

Another 2004 5900 just popped up for a BIN of $1900 w/free shipping. No previous selling of anything but clothing before this auction. Stay away!

It's a scam. The reason the seller is listing for pre-approved buyers only is b/c some people "here and there" have created accounts with names like, ThisIsAScam" and similar and placed opening bids. Hard for the scammers to get more bids when the name of the first "bidder" is something like that.

Does TREK know about this? Do you think they care? Surely if they do not know they would appreciate being informed. If I were a TREK dealer I would be checking into the situation.

It's been pulled already. Pretty quick. I wonder what happened?
