....the ride was going great.... the ground was wet, but contact was good....I thought in my ingenuity I would take a short cut...a bike trail that cuts through a park and avoids major roads....i'm riding for the first time my upgraded old beater...boasting a brooks saddle, new rear rack, new arkel pannier (with laptop) new fenders, new lights and me of course decked out in my commuting best...
As soon as I saw the trail I new it would be tricky but thought I could handle it. The trail was covered with snow and slush....ahead i went in all my glory....within 20 seconds i was on the ground....no worries I thought. I'll be more careful(the road was 5 feet away). I proceeded forward...over the bridge that crosses the creek. Ahead is another opening for a roadway exit. Do I take it? No...I of course thought I could conquer the snow/slush. Ahead I went again...one more minor slip..just had to put one foot down. Kept going...kept going...kept going....and going... and then...I see the black roadway ahead..clear of sluch/snow and ahead i went...and as soon as i hit it....ahead i went...straight down to the ground...diving forward....landing on the nose of my saddle...balls first..... ouch ouch ouch ouch.....i sat there..hand down my pants...spreading the spandex out and giving me breathing room. Boy was it a painful fall. I have never in the years growing up as a kid...in the time i've been commuting have had a fall as serious as this... (well I broke my arm when i was 12)...but i'd rather break an arm than hit my family jewels....boy was it a hard hit....
eventually I got up. Do you think I got back on the bike? No....i walked...and walked ...one had on the bike...the other down below....walked..and walked... until i hit the roadway.... and walked somemore on the sidewalk. Eventually I got back on, stayed on the road...as soon as i got on..a pick-up truck roared by..honking his horn at me..but at this point, i couldn't care less..In my mind, all I could keep thinking..... was....(am I gonna be able to have kids?) ...anyhow... here I am ready to start my day.
