Queston of the Day (Monday)

How much do you expect to spend for cycling in 2008?

Break it down: Bikes, upgrades, accessories, clothing, entry/license fees, sports drinks/gels, cycling-specific travel/hotel expenses, etc.
Does NOT include hospital bills - no more crashes allowed for 2008!

I voted on what I think I will spend.
If I were to properly budget, I would say 0 except for some entry fees. I have quite an inventory (over 20 new tires, probably 6 chains, 4 cassettes, shifters, cranks, etc.)

$100 - accessories; $200 entry fees. Maybe $100 on Gatorade & bars.

I'm making this an inexpensive year. No new bike and I have plenty of spare equipment.

The only thing that might throw it off is if I take another cycling vacation - in which case, I count that as "vacation" expense.

Shockingly, I checked and found I spend over $3500 on cycling related stuff last year. Buying little parts and tools adds up.

My money is on you John, actually staying within that budget. Joy is almost there after 2 months. I'd say she makes it until June.

I think we should have another poll in a few months that asks if everyone has kept within his/her budget. :D

No, I have a moratorium on new bikes after this last one. Unless I find a track bike that fits.

Oh wait... I forgot to factor in wheelsets. Oops.

Crap.

It's kind of like dog years and having a budget for one dog year.

Sounds reasonable. Oh wait, the clocks change soon. Does that matter?

If your budget is seasonal, perhaps.

You should change the title of this poll...seriously. It should be quarterly.

No. Check the poll. I plan to spend over $10,000.

I also plan to be the Queen of France.

I think being Queen of France is obtainable.

Um, i've already spent around $700-800 for the Casseroll parts (still have yet to get wheels), then there's the Iro Rob Roy to build up (which is probably going to be another $500-800), and i'm also planning on getting some wheel covers to make a "disc" wheel for triathlons and a rear HED3 wheel.

I'm also thinking of getting a titanium TT/triathlon frame from Soul Bike or TitanFlex, but if i did pick up the frame this year, i'd wait until next year to build it up.

I normally don't budget for these things. If I think I've spent a lot, then I'll tighten up. :p

Hmm, come to think of it, this year I've already spend quite a bit on a skewer and a handlebar...

I don't have a set budget for cycling but I don't see myself spending more than $300 this year. Part of that money will go to ride registration fees and the rest will probably go to tires, tubes, gels, etc. I don't foresee purchasing any other components for this year. I have plenty of spare parts.
But on the other hand, if I see a frame I like, I'll buy it, whether it's $100 or $1,000.
Maintenance cost is usually zero as I do all work myself.

No budget, but expect to be over $2k. The majority of that spending will be related to the Cycle Oregon ride I'm doing in September.

My point being I had no f-ing clue how much I would spend on 2007 and only a slightly better idea about 2008. I explicitly planned to buy NO bikes in 2007 and I ended up buying three (the Look, the Stowe, and Tracie's Giant). I have no idea how much I spent on clothes, tools, nasty tasting sports foods, century/hotel fees. I don't want to know. I doubt I will buy any additional bikes in 2008, so whatever i spend in 2008 will probably be less but who knows?

Well it's complicated because I sold my litespeed so technically, especially if my wife asks, I should deduct the sale amount from the purchase price of a new bike, right? If there is any other way to get the purchase price down to a manageable level, please let me know!

Besides with a look like that the only riding she/he is gonna get is on a bike:D

Hi,

I did not select anything on the poll because I'm not sure how much I can or will spend. However, I'm fairly confident that my budget is less than the national debt. ;)

Budget, ... budget ...

Oh yeah; I heard that word before!

As in:
If a thought comes into my head that I may be spending too much on something, I budget out of my mind.:roflmao:
Since I pay for all expenses for trips for the two of us, can I count my girl's new Orca in my tally?

In which case I'm probably off the scale.
(If she upgrades her wheels I'll definitely be off!) :D
