There is a cycling friendly Letter to the Editor right now in the Rocky Mountain News regarding the state's support of cycling in future transportation planning.
However, the comments following are decidedly anti-cyclist.
Thought I would share and see if we could illiscit any discussion or support our cause.

I hate to say it, but everyone of those people (so far) have valid points. We have unfortunately given ourselves a negative image in the eyes of the public......and spandex do make my butt look fat.
I suppose that I am a littel naive as I feel that, as a cyclist, I am a good steward of the traffic laws and cycle with ALL VEHICLES in mind.
I haven't come across a bad cyclist and I feel that a lot of the complaining from cagers is that we may infringe on their unfettered "right" to cheap motoring and that by slowing down a bit and moving slightly lateral in order pass us becomes a major "inconvenience."

Hey, now. I look DAMN good in my spandex!

I think they are more refering to the group riders that ride 3 and 4 wide. The total disregard for stop signs as the roll through as a group. Not that we have to but the yielding as we are a slower vehicle. Some common sense with the little things to ease the tension. We have to co-exist. The saying is "share the road" not "give us the road".
Unfortunately, a good portion of their points are the usual uninformed bs. Others are valid points such as references to not paying attention to traffic laws. However, most motorists do these very same things. I roll stop 4 ways stops on my bike. I can not begin to mention how many motorists do the same thing. The adage don't complain about your neighbors house when yours is a mess comes to mind.
I'm sorry but I would rather watch paint dry then argue with those making the comments. Either that or visit A&S and argue about sidewalk riding or helmet effectiveness. :p
