Tell you what...I KNOW there are some designers out there (and in some of you who just don't know it). Therefore, I'm going to sweeten the offer a little to make this interesting.

Let's have a contest to see what designs folks can come up with. You have to have confidence and self-esteem to enter, since your design may not be chosen. And if you don't have a sense of humor, please just go ride your bike.

But for those of you who would like to take a crack at it, please PM me for my email address (I'll provide) and then email me a "suggested" design (using photoshop or other program). Once these designs are received, I will then put up in a "private" poll for folks to vote. The most voted design wins (obviously). I will NOT reveal the names of those submitting designs unless given permission to do so! The winner, of course, will have to be revealed (I mean, come on).

The deadline to submit is March 30th. That gives all of you plenty of time to submit an entry. Note: if you are a submitting a design, I've created an email account for this specifically. Please email your design to roadchick310@hotmail.com. Please put in the subject line your Bikeforums handle and "Jersey 2008," so that I don't think it spam. I will then PM you on here once I get your submission. Thank you. :)

The winner gets a $25 gift certificate to Performance, a box of his/her favorite gel/bar/cliff blocks and a gift certificate to Starbucks (to go pose in with the jersey), and a beer/cocktail/beverage on me. All entries get a free beer/cocktail/beverage purchased by me at the next So Cal gathering or after a ride. I will not forget.

Only caveat: If no design is chosen and jerseys are not made, no one wins. Sorry, but that is only fair as I am hoping to motivate an artist to step forward and design the 2008 jersey! However, I WILL still treat anyone who takes a shot at to a free beverage...because I'm social. :p

Note - This is meant in the fun spirit of commaraderie only. All trolls and sour pusses (I'm sure they'll pop in) should just be ignored. Any design is welcomed - but only genuine contenders should submit.

Last but not least, if no one enters, I'm scratching the 2008 jersey idea all together - mainly because, I can't design them myself! :o

Pretty good deal for the designer. One thing I would add is that I think the folks who purchase the jerseys should all kick in an extra couple of bucks so the designer can get a free jersey. We did this with last year's jersey and everyone seemed to think it was a good idea.

I'm in agreement with that. :)

Also, Cj...I'm going to be ;) ;);) sweet talkin' you to get info on where to order....:D

We used Champion last time http://www.champ-sys.com/

They were great for the first couple of orders but seemed to have some growing pains for the next round (the 2nd orders were a couple of weeks late). I think people were generally happy overall. Sizing might have been a bit of an issue in that the Race cut jerseys were shorter than some expected.

The good things about using them is that they only had a 10 unit minimum and the jerseys were only $45 each.

Wow...didn't have to sweet talk all that much. ;) Thank you! Now...if/when we get a design. :D

m.e., is there a limit on number of colors?

merider1
03-03-08, 06:57 PM
No, absolutley not. I'm suggesting blue, but I'm open to interpretation. This jersey is a collected effort. Someone comes up with a design that incorporates many colors, all the power to them!

I say, let your designing juices flow! I'm all about juices flowing, you know. :D

No, Jim, we aren't using your Anthem of the Sun tie-dyed shirt from 1968 as the template.

Something that is visible, preferably high contrast works for me. Oh, yeah, I want one. :) Long enough for a taller rider is good too.

lol @ Vance
I was thinking more that the companies making the jerseys may charge by or have limits to the number of colors.

My wife has a degree in graphic design from Art Center. Good luck talking her into doing something for cycling, though.

I'm a terrible designer, so I'm out.

The word "incentive" in a thread by ME got my attention, but reading it spoiled the fun.

+1 on the designer getting his/her jersey for free.

No, no, silly. We will still have the red jerseys. Heck, I have two that I still plan to wear. This is just the 2008 jersey. We can still wear it AND a red star. ;)

This is going to be downright fun!

And again....REMINDER...This is in the spirit of fun. All designs are welcomed, and I'll be the first to say, I'm impressed with anyone who gives it a go...as I do not have the courage to do so. And remember, your beverage is on me. ;)

So far, I'm buying drinks for:

Aight. I'll give it a shot. Remember, though, I'm a MySQL admin/PHP programmer, not a graphic designer.

Can we use crayons and construction paper?

My head's spinning with ideas, but I'll probably be disappointed and find out it's a $25 gift card to Macy's or something.

Seriously, I designed a t-shirt on MS Paint once. If anyone has seen the original Encino Velodrome t-shirt with blue and orange graphics from 1995-1997, that was my design... and my teen wheel building enterprise is on the back as a sponsor.

No prob, I'm just curious of what's expected- or is this just an open, "do what you feel" sorta thing?

If you want a good starting point, there are templates available on Champion's site under "downloads". I think Chimivee used them for last year's design.
