I was looking at getting a professional bike fitting. I ride an old technium, and I probably put on 100 miles per week. Where is the best place to go? Where should I stay away from? PM's are preferred for the places to stay away from.

Ok. I'll look into them further. I have some minor knee pain, and I don't want it to get any worse. That's why I'm looking to get fitter for my bike.

I believe the fitting from wobble naught takes about 2 hours and runs about $185.

I'm sure there are cheaper, though probably none more thorough.

I got fitted at Cadence Cycles in Saline, MI. Angel Amador is a cycling coach and tri specialist, and the shop was started as a triathlete shop. He fit me for about $80, including an interview, measurements, style assessment, and adjustments in my case on my bike. He moved my saddle forward, nailed the angle and height, set my bars to limit my knee closure angle. My back/arm extension was already ok, but if I felt like it another cm longer would be good. He uses a goniometer to measure knee angle and sets saddle height on that basis. We used KOPS as a knee starting point, but he says it's only a start. But, it works well for me.

On a series of rides last summer I found myself with more power and able to spin faster, plus I'm discovering the power I really have. A big improvement!

I've also been able transfer the contact points to my other bikes which have different geometries, and it works well for them as well. I think the fit really suits my body, not just for a specific bike.

He seems to be a student of Friel and Serotta, but we did not use the Serotta fit cycle.

He also guarantees his work - need a readjustment, set up a time and he'll fix me.

Tom Demerly at Bikesport in Dearborn is excellent, but make sure you call for an appointment, He is often to busy to even talk if you drop in.

There's a big price difference here, and everyone who recommended a fitter must be happy otherwise they wouldn't have posted. So what is the best?? Why should I go to one shop over the other? I'm not looking to get the most areo position or the absolute highest kilowatt rating, however, I want to be a long term bicyclist and eliminate any posible joint wear due to misalignment. Thanks!!

A few others I've spoken to are Two Wheel Tango, Kinetic Systems in Clarkson (I'm tempted to try because teh owner raced a Masi GC, has decades of experience, and teaches yoga), and Ride Boutique in Brighton and Ann Arbor. Ride Boutique seems to be tryint to replicate teh experience at Paul Levine's high-end boutique bike shop in Manhattan, fit is $$$ but what he says sounds good. I had some fitting work done at TWT, but it was aborted because they said there was no way they could make my Mondonico work for me. Well, the good job Cadence did for me was ON the Mondonico!!

But to be fair, the fellow who had the problem with my butt on the Mondo is no longer there, and there are some new fitters, gaining knowledge and training over the past few years.

Based on price and knowledge, I'd recommend Cadence as the best choice to start with and perhaps to stay with.

I personally spend a lot of time at two wheel tango in ann arbor, as I am at U of MI regularly with this kidney transplant (was done there) and the guy who works the counter at that shop is terrific. helpful, nice, understanding, and willing to chat as long as you like without acting bored or rushed. I appreciate that. Their prices tend to be very fair, and their techs/wrenches are good. I've asked them some tech stuff about my older bike and they were very helpful.
If you want a second choice, go there.

Now I have found Two Wheel Tango customer and tech service sometimes good and sometimes not, but we're really just talking about individuals, not the businesss It is worth a try.

I am in the Tom Demerly Camp, I can't say he is way better than anybody else listed here, but If I had to choose again I would choose Tom .


Plus I only live a block away from his store.:)
