I think the color is a coincidence. It's the underside of the Selle-An-Atomica saddle, which is actually quite wonderfully comfortable. I think the writing is on the leather, not the person. I never realized before watching this that uncolored leather is same color in some cases as the arse sitting on it!

Not that serious. Just go look at all the bikeforums.net posters vying for one of ten test saddles from Brooks! The saddle they are proposing has cut outs. Wonder if it will compare?

Free Brooks saddles ???!!!

What a coincidence...I just installed a Selle An-atomica this weekend. As I posted yesterday, I rode a metric century yesterday (Sunday) and was using this saddle for the first time. It was great! 63 miles, 3700 feet of climbing, no saddle problems.

As a long-time Brooks owner, I think I've found a new favorite saddle.

Ooh!! Tell me more! I need a new saddle, and I loved the feel of the Selle An-Atomica that was on that Bleriot I test rode a couple months back. Is it as wonderful as you imagined?

Short answer: yes, it was wonderful.

In fact, it was so comfortable, I felt like I was "cheating" somehow (aren't you supposed to suffer to break in a new saddle?).

Of course, saddles are highly personal...and everyone is different. My personal comparison is a couple of Brooks saddles....

My previous "favorite" saddle is an old Brooks Professional that I got 27 years ago...nicely broken in, fits my sit bones...I would never part with it. I got it back when I was riding long distances, and I couldn't find a saddle that was comfortable after 60 miles or so...the thing I like about a Brooks is that it feels at 100 miles like it does right out of the gate. The Brooks Pro, however, is currently occupied on my commuting bike.

So, for my new bike (that I got last Fall), I stupidly decided to be both vain and cheap at the same time. Instead of getting another Brooks Pro, I got a Brooks Swift (mainly because it's so very cool looking) but to be cheap, I bought it used on eBay. It's a great saddle, and turned out to be 98% new, but it's too narrow for me...but since I bought it used I can't return it (it's still pretty cool-looking, though).

I was going to try a B-17 or Brooks Pro to replace the Swift, but tried out the Selle An-Atomica at a bike show and *loved* it. It feels right out of the box like my Brooks Pro did after many, many miles of riding. Even though it's incredibly stupid to ride a new saddle on a long ride, I was so confident that I put it on my bike this Saturday, rode a few miles around the neighborhood with an Allen wrench getting the fit *just* right, and then took it on a pretty stiff 100km ride yesterday.

For a variety of reasons, I've ended up with 6 saddles right now...the Selle An-Atomica is in a class by itself, but -- just to be clear -- I've only racked up one long ride on it. So, my opinion could change. Some folks think that the cutouts in the seat feel odd....you will note that the company recommends you wear "well padded" shorts on the saddle; I guess that's so you don't feel the edges of the cutout.

. . . . . . . but I might want to try that saddle. My Fi'z'ik Aliente has about 20,000 miles on it.

I like how the copy for the second saddle says the cut outs "provide imperceptible relief".

I'm still not sure what I'm looking at, though. When I look at the saddle, it looks like a brooks. But in the video, especially the last clip, it looks like it's very wide at the nose.

Actually, Rivendell has an interesting write-up on the Selle An-Atomica. Long back-and-forth about the benefits of Brooks vs. Selle An-Atomica...conclusion is that most people find the Selle An-Atomica more comfortable, but that for heavier riders who do lots of heavy duty riding, it might not last as long...

I tried a Selle An-Atomica when I first got my Rivendell, but I found it to be too narrow for my wide sit bones and the nose was so long it caught on my shorts when I stopped at stoplights. I've now got a Brooks B-68 and both problems are solved.

Folks of color, probably don't view the video the same way. I teach at an historically Black university, and I'm pretty sure most of my students wouldn't see the underside of this saddle as skin colored.

I have about 400 miles on my Selle An-Atomica and really, really, really like it. I like it so much that I had a 20+ year old Brooks Pro modified to have the same cut out. Now the Brooks is even more comfortable than it was before.

The Rivendell write-up on the Selle An-Atomica is very positive, but then includes a statement that I find to question whether it is worth the money. That statement is:

"For most people, a broken in B.17 is just as comfortable as an SA saddle. A small percentage will like the SA more; a smaller percentage will like the B.17 more."

If I attempt to quantify this statement, I might start with saying that around 70% of the people (i.e. most people) find the Brooks and the SA to be about the same. Then of the remaining 30%, let's say that 20% of them prefer the SA and 10% prefer the Brooks. I believe this breakdown estimate is in line with what is written.

I can take these numbers and turn them around to say that approximately 80% of everyone who uses a SA and a Brooks, finds the Brooks to as good or better. That is, only around 20% find the extra cost of the SA to be worthwhile.

The percentages could be a little different than this, but it is unlikely they would be much different, if the Rivendell statement is true.

Yeah. That's the way I read it too. It seems to be a backwards way of damning by faint praise. I suspect they didn't intend it that way.

You know how it is, all we see is what comes out on the screen, but just imagine the side view with the camera dolly, chase cars, camera men, dolly grips and director intently focused on the, er, um, ACTION!

The wacky stunts and mishaps that could occur while trying to frame the story for the audience should be fun for all ages.

Exactly.

It's hard to tell what the total clearance was between the lens and the subject, but any dynamic cycling over rough roads or including sudden stops would be too great a risk for "The Talent."

One second you're filming the function of the Selle An-Atomica, a split second later you're filming a documentary titled "The Colonoscopy and You."

Of course a recording of the audience reaction to an IMAX preview of the film outtakes would probably have great market potential as well.
