let's hear it.
let's hear it.
40+ race
I didn't chase or attempt any breaks I just sat in. I went for primes and the final sprint.
4th in the first prime they only go down 3.
Between 6-8th on second prime see above. I was totally spent after the second prime and faded to the back to recover.
15th in the final sprint. They only go down 10
22 miles without warm up or cool down lap at 26 Mph avg. I hit a max speed of 36 Mph on the sprint for the 1st prime

Don't tell me. Please don't tell me...
EDIT: hoping you just meant that you flamed out, not that you crashed.
Flamed out, not crashed. I figured El Do was a good place to do that... :D

I go for the primes because I want to hurt myself. Who knows I might develop a sprint plus I like the adrenaline rush as we ramp up with one lap to go. I love seeing the long thin line and me fighting for a wheel. I would rather go down fighting and blow up then hide in the pack and do nothing. I guess that's part of my all or nothing personality.
And the girl....she did awesome. She stayed in again!!!!

Tonight was my first time at Eldo. Very cool. Will definitely go back.
I saw Cleave and Brandy... But didn't get a chance to say hi. Maybe next time.

You should have introduced yourself. I don't bite. Hard. :p What team do you race for?

The girl almost popped. :o The pace was faster tonight and I remember looking at the clock with 33 minutes to go and thinking that I wasn't going to last. Somehow I recovered, or we slowed down, or both and I managed to stay in the whole time. Still had fun, I think it was a bigger group tonight and there were more ladies out there! :)

Good seeing everyone at ELDO and I had a number of teammates there as well. I knew tonight would go off with a bang since it was the first Eldo with the time change. Second clue was people moving up to the front on the neutral lap which picked up to almost 20 mph. I was glad that I was in the top ten when the whip cracked.
I am not sure how fast last week was but tonight we were moving. Single file at the end of the first lap and rule was to stay in line. I managed to peek a couple of times and were in the 30's a few 28's and 29's. There seemed to be alot of riders on the course tonight in between groups (maybe a crash ?). Its gets a little sketchy passing riders on the left and right when you lined out. I think Chris should reinforce the "stay to the left" rule again.
I know we were shelling people and that playful banter you sometimes hear quickly stopped and things get real quiet. I closed the gaps I had to and was with the group going into the last corner. Problem was they jumped to hyperspace and my sprint was more of a dull flashlight..
no worries ..I was happy to stay in since the pace was full throttle a couple of times.

same thing happens to me at least 1/3 of the time. i'm starting to think it comes down to a lack of focus in the middle of races.

I was definitely not completely focused. My bike was making an irritating noise, I kept thinking about how I forgot to down a gel, wondering if one could actually die of dry throat, etc. :p

959 watts !! and you think you need a sprint ? I need to get a power meter.

959 watts is not all that high of a max. Granted mines not much better, but true sprinters will turn out 1400-1500 easily. They can also hold 1200 for 10-15 seconds. I cant believe you had that low of a average for that high of a speed, good job staying in the pack and not fighting the wind. Pretty impressive

Yeah, how come so many bugs already? Bleah!
Looking at my data, the 40+ race was only slightly faster than last week (25.5 MPH vs 25.0 MPH), but the fastest laps were much faster (27+ MPH vs barely 26 MPH).
However, there were still too many, "what me pull?" moments tonight. Also there were several very sketchy guys (and one gal -- not Brandy) out there. I was in a break with these two La Grange guys and the second guy is overlapping the first guy and he keeps moving sideways a bike width a time. I yelled, "Can't you keep it straight on the straight?" and I guess he took some offense because he got out of the saddle and sprinted around his teammate. I stayed on his wheel, pulled through when he got tired and pulled a steady, straight line. :D Of course this didn't lead to anything significant. :o
It was good to see Groupetto, vireo, and Brandy. It was also good to see some of my Eldo friends who didn't make it out last week. Just think, only 24 more weeks to go. ;)

As you can see I am pretty much in the dark on power meters . I always thought that I dont need another expensive gadget to tell me that I am feeling good and hurting someone or that I am about to get dropped on the last climb.
However there seems to be alot of people training using power

To be able to have that kind of average speed with that low of power must have meant that he spent very little time in the wind with a lot of time being smart and hiding in the pack, something I need to work on.

Thank you for noticing.
My training goal for the day was hide behind big people, practice moving through the field, contest the primes and the finale but conserve the rest of the race. I will use Eldo to experiment with different things.
I have seen Max sprints of 1251 once but plenty of 1100's. The challenge for me as a beginner is having enough left when I get in that thin line to still pump out 1100's and 1200's. I have been sub 1,000 on all of the sprints thus far.

I have boosted my sprint power alot, from 1100 to over 1600 watts in just about 6 weeks. I guess it just needed wake the legs up. ;) Actually I have added some sprints in when Im doing my SST rides. Since I do these on a road with lots of small rollers I ride at about 300 watts, then stand and sprint in the drops up each roller. These are not big rollers, say 12 to 15 seconds to get over em, then drop back to 300 watts. Its really painful and the HR was going thru the roof at first, but now I can recover pretty quickly. Im not a sprinter either, but Im working on it. Of course Im 40 maybe 50 lbs heavier too.:o

Do you mind if I ask how much you weigh? Because the large numbers can lie. I am 150lbs.
Based on 50lbs heavier:
300 watts on roller is 3.29 w/kgs
1600 watts on sprint is 17.58 w/kgs
my
300 watts is 4.40 w/kgs (did GMR TT at 257 watts (3.77 w/kgs) 20 mins right after Tour de Murrieta circuit race)
1251 watts would be 18.39 w/kgs
DISCLAIMER-- MY NUMBERS ARE PITIFUL WHEN YOU LOOK AT CAT 1,2 OR EURO PROS CLIMBING AT OVER 6 W/KG.

Ok, not even 40 lbs then. I am down to 183. I have SST tonight, so I will be doing some sprints as well. Ill have some new numbers Im sure. Since I started training with a power meter my #'s have climbed every 2 weeks. Climbing is still my weakness, so most of my training is done on climbs or rollers. Last week my 5 minute repeats were at 370, and that is holding nothing back. Interestingly enough I can hold over 400 for 5 minutes on the flats or rollers. But in all fairness, there is a short 50yard section that is at 11%, also known as my nemesis.:o The large nubers is why I mentioned weight.

Hi,
I've stated this before. I don't want a power meter because I'm sure that I'll end my racing career when I see the numbers. Ignorance is bliss in my case. ;)
Email from CBR...
I don't who it is that's helping us with having more non-regulars participate...but if it's Lee Ziff and the leaders from Cynergy, then I really appreciate the show of support! There are many racers from Kahala-La Grange and Cynergy, and it really helps us! I'm not sure if the Cat. 4s or Cat. 5s have figured it out, but with these Tuesday nite races, these "speed up" your ability to upgrade. For a person to do 10 races (upgrade from a 5 to a 4), then this can happen in 3 weeks. For a racer wanting to upgrade to a Cat. 3 by pack fodder experience, that can happen in 2 months. From a 5 to a 3 in less than 3 months, assuming you race every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some racers have already figured it out, as the cream always moves to the top!
I screwed up and forgot the race numbers last week, and I really appreciate everyone's help with this. It's never about the money; it's always about the liability. If someone races without the waiver and crashes then sues, the course is gone and the promoter's gone, and then local racing just sucked a little harder. Anyone who doesn't have the money knows that I will let them cover it the next week, and if they burn me by not squaring up, then I enter it into the computer where it doesn't forget! In any event, I appreciate everyone's help with this, and it will be another 8 years (hopefully) before I forget the numbers again!
Here are the results, please enjoy! We hope to see everyone on Tuesday at 5:50pm!
