Of course, I blew out the hub on it, but it was done at the time of the picture!

I owe a big thanks to RainmanP on here who gave me some perspective on the why of a fixed, and pointed me towards some cool websites that gave me just about all the info I needed to get started. Thanks RainmanP, you rock!

Total spent including the bike was 200 dollars. I got pedals on sale at preformance, and splurged on new handlebars. I have brake problems due to the 700cc rim, but, otherwise, it worked great.. till I blew the hub... I'm bummed about the hub, but I'll take it to the shop this weekend.

The "before" picture, well, about the 1/2 way picture before I shaved mounts, etc, basicaly, just with out derailers and rear brakes, and new wheels.

Looks good. Nice work. Did you do the paint yourself?

Yes I did. You can see the blue and white, but the lugs are painted silver. The fade on the rear triangle looks good.. from about 10 feet away.. :D

what brake is that? I'm thinking of putting 700c wheels on my old 27" frame.

The front brake is a problem.. and it doesn't come from the brake it's self, but rather the wire guide from the head set has tooooo much flexability and that makes it impossible to get a good grip on the rim.

But it's some old Diacombe brake, if that helps.

One thing that's also hard to notice is the outer gear.. I shaved all the teeth off to make a built in chain gaurd. Worked out pretty sweet!

Looks really good, I hope my project bike comes up half as well.

Richard I'm sure it will. I'm a hack at best on things. I like to tinker and play. I can give you all my tips on frame prep if you like... It's pretty simple. The paint job could have been better if I had take more time waiting for the coats of paint to dry..

Thanks, but I fear it's too late. I've got the frame pretty clean and already have the paint. I confess that whilst mines derailleur-less it is a three-speed (can I admit that in this forum ;) ).

I used a grinding bit for a dremel and put it on my drill to grind down the cable runs, etc.

For painting, I'd say strip the paint as best possible, and primer it. Paint where it's warm.. do many layers of light coats waiting a while between coats... It's worked better on the SS MTB I'm building right now. The MTB won't be fixed, and it won't even have a SS hub. I'm just gonna strip it into what ever strait chainline fits the gears.. But I painted it flat black, and it looks nice.

The only thing more fun that riding fixed is making the bikes. I learned a lot from it.
