Commuting - How about a motorcycle mirror?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Eh?
Anyone done it?
There are motorcycle mirrors that simply clamp to the bars and with proper shims would fit bicycle handlebars. I've had trouble finding a bicycle specific handlebar mount mirror that is large and mounts via an arm.
Just have to figure out where to get a used one....

I have one of these on my Vespa. I'm sure it would work great for bikes.

On lowrider bike sites you can find bike
specific ones that are lighter but look just
like an MC mirror. I use one on my SS
commuter and love it. I think that company
that makes all that generic stuff called Pyramid
makes a few.

Any LBS that sells kids' bikes will have a selection of big, old-fashioned bike mirrors with mounts sized for bicycle handlebars. They're even available with a reflector or two on the back. In pretty colors.

I don't find this to be the case. I just got a handlebar mirror for my wife that fits anywhere on the bar (most I've found are bar-end mirrors). It was one of two that I've found in the past few months. Still not quite what we wanted for her bike, but it was on sale, and, like I said, it was one of two that we had found. I may have to look for these motor-cycle style mirrors.

You may want to try stores more focused on children's bikes, like Academy Sports, Walmart or Target.

This is funny in a way, over on a Buell motorcycle discussion site many of the people there put bicycle barend mirrors on their Buells.
